QB Race

At age 19, Martinez is already better at hiding the ball and selling his fakes than Lee, the Senior who's been working longer with the same guys. That's not magic, but it is instinct. Zac Lee can be really competent at times, but he telegraphs almost every play. A coach sees that and there's no way you don't want the kid with instinct in there.

That being said, there's a good chance Zac Lee will have to come in and save this team's bacon at some point this year.

Some of you more seasoned fans may remember a qb named Mark Mauer who had a young qb behind him named Turner Gill. The fans all wanted Gill and thus wanted Mauer out. Gill soon replaced Mauer, the Huskers rolled and then Gill got hurt and it was poor Mark Mauer who had to go up against Oklahoma. Well Mauer and the Huskers actually crushed OK that year, the first time in many seasons. Nobody fogot Turner Gill but Mauer was given a nice exit and a piece of redemption.

:yeah

I dont care what you all think. Lee got screwed. He is our best option at having a great season and now because you all think Tmart is the next thing best to sliced bread he will get all the accolades. I personally think that Lee got a huge slap in the face and i am not happy about it. I know 95% of you think otherwise but its a buncha crap. If i was Lee i would have flipped the coaches off when they asked him to go in. He IS a leader. He can throw the ball better than any other qb. I do not have a problem with Tmart playing. He can have an impact on this team. But against teams like washington, texas, Mizzou, and oklahoma he will not have the success he had tonight against an 0-21 team. The state of nebraska looks at Tmart as the next coming of the greates heisman candidate ever and he is not. I personally wish him the best success but its not going to happen. We WILL LOSE 3 games this year. Mark my words

Before you get all blown up over this issue, have you know that a couple of students were sitting behind and kept bringing up that Lee was nursing a sore foot or something, i dont how much we could lead into that, but who knows, we know how well this coaching staff can keep secrets. Other fact is mayby Zac's rehab didnt go so well afterall. Maybe he had a bad week of practice and lost out. I will say this, the qb battle is going to continue beyond the Washington game, who know's maybe Zac comes out like a gangbuster next week and Taylor or Cody have a couple bad practices. Just like Newcombe and Crouch in 99, it's gonna take a few games to figure out who completes the right combination.

Cocky? Yes. Too cocky? Is there such a thing?

As long as he doesn't make just a complete @$$ of himself, I'm totally fine with it. We need a guy who is confident back there, because confidence killed us at times last year.

Before I say this, I am in no way shape or form comparing these two from athletic ability, but merely from a mental ability. Crouch was an extremely cocky individual, yet he won the Heisman and took us to our last national title. Cockiness can be very, very good for you.

the only one that looks to be a significant dual-threat is cody. tmart's only attempt at a deep ball was extremely ugly. tmart ran the offense pretty well and was electric, but can we afford to lose the deep ball threat that is niles paul? also, we have bigger problems...the dline play was shabby at best...if we give locker that kind of time we are gonna be in for a dogfight. i hope they have moved ltw back to LB...he should not be riding the pine. kick coverage was not good...that kid kept bringing it out from 3 yards deep in the endzone and went untouched to at least the 20 every time.

You cant be serious. he hasnt played LB in 2 years. Even in '08 he couldnt even crack playing time above the walkons, Holt and May.

In defense of T-Mart, I remember his receiver not being near as open as Paul was when Green through him the ball. Also, Martinez's receivers dropped at least three passes last night. You can't really put that on Martinez.

Second, I think by the Washington game we will have some but not all of our defensive mistakes shored up. Our guys got sloppy and our young linebackers had troubles making the correct adjustments. I'm hoping they can fix these things by the Washington game or else you are right, we will have a tough time.

That said, Pelini was upset with his defense's performance last night. I don't think he is going to go easy on them at all the next two weeks. They need to play far better as a whole than they did last night.

the WRs also made some good grabs on pretty shaky balls, and all short passes. on the deep ball - there were 2 guys open and tmart threw it straight into the turf 20 yds downfield with no air under it and not within 10 yds of either reciever.
