Today's Presser

Nobody here hates Taylor

Don't tell me that when we're having to remove threads ripping into our QB. Maybe everyone didn't see it, but there was a lot of hate directed at him after the game.

Like I said, it's frustration. Anybody who's actually shallow enough to say that they hate Taylor personally just because of how he plays football doesn't deserve to be here. I'd like to think that 99% of the members of this board are smarter than that, though. I've said some unflattering things about him, but that doesn't mean I hate the guy.

Just watched Martinez's presser. That has to be alarming to fans, even casual ones. I'm a proponent of flushing bad games down the toilet to an extent, but you have to take responsibility and own up to your bad games. His deflection of questions about the game and canned answer of "better decisions" shows a lack of accountability IMO.

You'd have to have seen the context in which he's been shredded by the press and fans around here to have a better understanding of why he answered those questions the way he did. He wasn't joking when he said it didn't matter how he answered the questions, he'd still get ripped for it.

Understatement of the year. The haters are in a frenzy and are ready, able and "very", very willing to rip apart anything he says.

Just like how you ripped apart Zac Lee? Kinda like that....or....

I don't remember fans making things personal with Zac, and outright inventing bullsh#t stories to make him the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Hating him playing QB is different from hating him as a person. He may be the coolest person ever for all I know. But as far as being a QB, I think he is best suited for a diff position. But he will be our QB this season bc we don't have anyone else. That is more telling about the coaching and development of players.

I don't hate him. I just think his skillset is better suited for another position. That's all. Since you removed those threads I can't speak to that, but I saw mostly people who are concerned about his ability to play QB. If that's hating then I guess we Nebraska fans are too sensitive.

The name childish name calling is quite prevalent.

T-Ragic? Please. Grow the F up.

Yes he sucked, but he wasn't alone.

Just look at the responses to this thread, and other threads around here. There are people who call themselves Husker fans who act like they hate the guy.

I agree, it's embarrassing.

Any QB at a big school gets ripped. SEC QBs get ripped. Russell Wilson will get ripped if he has a bad game. Kellen Moore got ripped last season after losing to Nevada. Zac Lee got ripped. Zac Taylor got ripped. Sam Keller got ripped. Should I keep going? And you all know who you are, the ones who ripped on Zac Lee and then come back and call us bad fans when we rip Martinez. Any QB that comes to a big time football program should be expecting to take lumps after a bad game/season, its just the way it is.

"Just the way it is" That doesnt mean its right, does it?

You're right, it is. And there's nothing wrong with saying he screwed up here or there, because he did/does. But when people make it personal, which happens all too often, it's stupid and childish and there's no excuse for it. I'm absolutely not pointing fingers at anyone here, either. I want to be really clear about that. We're just discussing it because it's been brought up. But it happens, all too frequently, and that explains (to me) a great deal about why Martinez would be very guarded with his answers to the press.

Niles Paul, Brandon Kinnie...really, we turn on a lot of players quickly in the heat of the moment, or while simmering after a loss. It's frustration and nobody really means it, but some of that stuff, man...it's hard to read. Not saying any of it has gone on in this thread, haven't read all the posts really. But it makes us look like Philadelphia Eagle fans! We're Husker fans, guys! We s--- class.

Sorry, nothing personal to Eagles fans. I just remember that fanbase being a tough crowd, as an understatement. Read some message boards where everyone was really just ripping into their team, players, and coaches with wild abandon...no hyperbole.

People expect to win, especially at a place like Nebraska. Trust me, if we lost 35-31 or 35-28, I think everyone would be feeling a lot better this week. Fans were expecting a loss, but I can only recall a few last week who said we'd be blown out. Well, we were humiliated on national television with recruits watching. That is why Im so upset.

He was taking lumps after Tenn-Chatt, Fresno, Washington, and Wyoming. We're very likely 2-2 in those games without him. Now that we lose, it's a full-on character assassination, and it's embarrassing to read/hear. But I guess it's just the way it is. As long as other people do it, it's alright.

I remember a lot of vitriol directed at Lee. I don't recall who was saying it, but he took a lot of unnecessary criticism during his tenure, too. That was also BS, by the way.

Maybe his play on the field, but the personal attacks aren't even in the same ballpark.

I would have to go dig up the threads, but there were some personal attacks directed at Lee, too. Basically the positions were drawn up - some people supported Lee even though our offense was epically bad, some people wanted to see the untested backup, Green. That's a debate for which there is no proof (much like the Martinez/Carnes debate today) and as the conversations progressed, the two sides became more entrenched (as often happens in such discussions), and some shots were fired at Lee. That's what I remember.

Same thing happened to Niles Paul, and he's probably the best example. Niles took a lot of (deserved) grief for his mistakes on the field, but some people took it WAY too far. There was even an incident in the parking lot after one of the games where some nimrod yelled something at Niles in front of his family, as I recall.

It was wrong to do to Lee, it was wrong to do to Paul, and shockingly, it's wrong to do to Martinez, too. And yet it persists. Not sure why. Mostly I think people just need to grow up.
