I do that already. But I found out that the PSU folks are asking for funds if you want to support the victims of this tragedy. (I posted it under another thread.) Think I'll send them a check...Join me?

First of all, I'm not trying to be an ass. But why do people always want to raise money for victims of a crime. I could see if they had lost their house, car or any other personal things due to a crime and were not able to get things replaced. This is a very horrible thing that has happened and I feel for the victims, but I do not see what money will do for them. Is it for legal council? I am just wanting to know.

The powers that be knew some things were going on with the Monster. Despite that, they let him bring children onto their campus even after they had told him not to.

 

Now I understand that a lot, if not most, of the people at PSU were not involved or were totally ignorant to the situation, but there were far too many people in high positions that allowed the Monster to continue doing what he did including current staff members of the football team.

 

I'm all for honoring or doing something to help the victims, but not the University. They turned a blind eye while children were being raped on their campus. The University of Nebraska should do NOTHING to honor that place. We really don't know the full depth of this debauchery, but imagine if our team honored PSU and 6 months from now the story gets even uglier. With how PSU handled this debauchery, they deserve ZERO honor from the University of Nebraska.

Why dont we just show up and play. Then graciously shake there hands at the end of the game and say......"We are thinking of you guys and the families of the victims, hopefully you guys can get through this tough time.

Totally agree! Nebraska had nothing to do with this whole debacle. Any PSU fan that would want to inflict any sort of harm on another team or fan for this has lost all sense. Any attention seeking opportunist that takes advantage of a situation like this, is not a PSU fan. They have NO respect for Paterno or his legacy. And they definitely have no sympathy for the children who's lives have been forever changed by a PSU assistant and those who failed to bring him to justice. PSU fans need to show a classy/honorable PSU to both sports fans and college football skeptics. Under no-circumstances should NU fans not where red! Wear it with pride and dignity. NU fans are there to support a team that needs them right now. We should not show less support for something that is PSU's problem.

In a show of support to Penn State players and the entire State College community, I think it would be cool if we replaced the red N on our helmets with a blue N this week. There is a lot of pain that there team and community is going through.

 

I don't necessarily agree with this. A very discreet show of support would be more than adequate. Doing anything to draw that much attention can be taken the wrong way. Right or wrong; to me part of the problem is lumping these tragic events together with this game. It is purely coincidental that NU is playing PSU during this tumultuous time. PSU needs to heal granted. Support the victims first and foremost. Attempt to understand and be empathetic to those struggling to comprehend how people they trusted could have allowed this to happen. It is a sad state of affairs all the way around no doubt. Lets not feed the media circus this has turned into. They will not postpone or cancel this game so our team has to play and move on. Pray for the victims and do whatever they can if so inclined; I just don't think this game should be used by NU as a way to make a statement about the events surrounding it.

 

Just to add.

 

College football, specifically Penn State, is walking on egg shells right. How about they show up the same way they always would. Play hard, with respect and honor....then leave. There is far too much going on for us to get involved in anyway whatsoever.

also, if we did anything it could come out as cheap and disingenuous. as if we were making it about us and how upstanding we are. i agree with a lot of the sentiments, this is getting enough attention and it is the type of tragedy that requires tact, taste, and circumspect.

Why blue? Blue is the color of Penn State, whose highest officials helped cover up the scandal for over a decade. Blue is probably the last color the victims and their families want to see.

Why would we do that for PSod.....U? The cover up that happened there is unforgiveable. Hell, we won't even change our uniforms for ourselves let alone for something like this. Truthfully, we need to separate ourselves from them as much as possible. There are other ways to show support for victims of crimes like this outside of this game!!

I understand your intent, but I think ultimately the ones that need the most support (by far) are the victims and their families, who are really not associated with PSU.

I hope that the Nebraska coaches have made clear to their players that the happenings at Penn State have horrified the country in a holocaust sort of way. If fans or players decide its the right thing to bring up in the stands or on the field - a world of sh** will fall in on whoever starts something. The coaches should make it clear to everyone that the person who starts something around this topic can expect to spend the rest of their lives as "that guy."

 

There's no reason at all to become part of this story. Get in - play the game - get out.

Yep - this disaster is so huge, it would be more than happy to swallow up another football team for dessert. All it will take is a bench clearing brawl for Nebraska to join the fun on all the news channels for months. The sharks are circling. Don't make waves.
