The people in my friends list who give up facebook for Lent aren't annoying because of their religion - they're just annoying people in general. They're the people who post song lyrics, vague statuses crying for comments, etc. I don't know if there's a correlation between religion and facebook statuses, but I think there is in my news feed. The most popular reason why people give things up from what I've heard is that Jesus gave up his life for our sins, the least we could do is to give up something that we don't need for him during Lent.
