Nebraska, Bo Pelini ignoring distractions, focusing on Big Ten Title

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Will Compton had a simple solution for the pervasive problem. It wasn't easy, considering his addiction. But he quit, cold turkey. No more surfing Safari, using his iPhone to read the Husker message boards. Compton unfollowed a bunch of people on Twitter -- well-meaning fans, journalists, and heck, maybe a friend or two -- and the end result was something like radio silence.

He hasn't regretted it. No, who are we fooling? Nebraska's senior linebacker misses the interaction. He'd like nothing more than to keep up with the buzz, and to keep in touch with all of those acquaintances. And if Compton gets real honest, he would also enjoy checking the pulse of Husker Nation. Do you ever wonder if/how many current players/coaches/school admin lurk on these boards?

Or post?

Couple years ago, we kept noticing a poster on TexAgs who was very knowledgable about several big decisions going down, and right before he left, he announced (and it was verified) that he was Dr. Robert Gates, our current president. Kinda makes ya think about who is on these types of boards...

I'm sure some of the players, coaches and administration from every school looks at their respective boards. Local and national media read and some even have accounts on the local team's boards and those of prominent teams, as well as those teams in thier conference (in the case of local beat reporters). They would all be silly not to - these boards are ways to "take the temperature" of the fans. You have to sift through a lot of nonsense, and take most opinions with a grain of salt (that internet anonymity lends itself to some exaggeration of opinion), but otherwise you can get some idea of what's going on.
