Lil' Red
Question ... I guess with Newby on board ... #113 rated LB ... our highest in the rankings from what I understand (posted info on Newby's thread) ... how is this class shaping up to be a Top 5 class? Tell me what gives someone like me the basic Husker fan that kind of enthusiasm. I'm just curious as to why we rate these recruits so high verses how others rank them. This is a geniune question. According to the ranking on Rivals our current LB's on board are solid prospects. The two we missed out on that we thought on this board we would possible get, Cox and and Ramirez both committed to Arizona St. and Mizzou and both are rated higher then any of our commits. As I look at the Newby commit, the #113 has to be wrong. He's ranked alot higher it seems on Rivals but they rank according to inside and outside. Looks to me like we will have a solid core of LB's ... but it to me we drinking some red koolaid to put it in the Top 5 realm. Love Banderas of course. I'll look forward to reading some other comments on this one for sure. Newby is ranked as the 113 best overall prospect by 247. Quote Link to comment
NoLongerN
^^^ did you just answer your own question??? (null) Nope. Currently, no one who claimed this was a Top 5 LB class has given any input into their reasoning. I stated what I have found. Still hoping for more input. Quote Link to comment
NUance
OLB Rivals list LINK ILB Rivals list LINK Top 5? It's hard to say. But just eyeballing Rival's two lists I'm guessing we'd be close--somewhere right around #5 give or take. (Note: Gerry is listed as an Athlete, so he is not on the OLB list.) Quote Link to comment

Florida and Stanford are the only two other teams on those lists that have two commits, and both of their commits are ranked higher than our set. Regardless, looking at the ILB list, if we lock up Claiborne and him and Love both get the star bump we all know they deserve, I don't see what's holding us back from a top 5 LB class. bshirt
well alabams would be #1. as 247 says they have 2 5 star LB's already. but we are up there no doubt if we were to land those guys. Reuben Foster is a monster of a LB Foster is one of the best LBs ever.. Its amazing to see how the prospects keep getting better and better. Heh...it seems that way to me too. I like it! Goal-line
If not the top one of the top. They would all be 4* guys. And would make the best complete position class since Pelini has been here. Talent wise. Stars don't me squat. They will only be the "top" if they pan out in the end. Quote Link to comment
hskerholic
With the miss of Claiborne could we tell cox he is welcome at linebacker? Try to get him to switch. (null) Quote Link to comment

Blackshirt316
I would say top 3 to 5 for sure, but like said above well know in a few years. Afalava, Rose, Santos, Banderas, Newby, Love.....wow. We get a couple top Dline to go along with the last few classes and our front 7 should be damn good. Our LB depth is a little scary this year, but after that it will become the strength of the D, right along with our secondary. Just need a good disruptive DT.....hear that Vanderdoes? Although i think Rome is going to be great. Rome, Peat, and Williams would seem to have bright futures based on what we have seen and heard thus far. Need Randle and/or Guy to pick it up this year. Need to keep adding 1-2 good DT's each class though. It is like O-Line, depth is everything fo long term success. Don't forget Valentine and Curry. We've got very nice DT depth. DE needs some help though as Ankrah hasn't turned on the light yet, Carter is a JUCO and none of the 5 DE's in the 2010 class has done anything at the position (Rome moved inside and Cotton moved to Offense but Vestal. Okeyumi and Ashburn haven't done anything at all.). Hopefully McMullen and Moss can step up after a redshirt year. Quote Link to comment

Talent wise. Stars don't me squat. They will only be the "top" if they pan out in the end. So to extraoplate this mentalitty to other positions, you'd be perfectly "fine" with DT Eddie Vanderdoes going elsewhere and Nebraska landing some 223 lb DT walk-on from Gering instead? Give me a break. Quote Link to comment
Foppa
NU needs to get the best LB's for Nebraska. The staff is going after the best LB's...for Nebraska. Will they get everything they want? Probably not. Top 3 Top 5 Top 1,000 who gives a sh*t. Isn't part of the reason NU hired Bo is because not only does he have the eye for the defensive talent that works best for his system, but the ability to develop and coach it as well? I'm sure many question his ability to do that, but if he isn't able to, then why bother having him as coach? Quote Link to comment
