Stumpy1
I really hate the school my wife teaches at. Last year, my wife and I bought a couple winter coats for some kids that didn't have one. My wife went to give them to the kids and the school said she wasn't allowed to give students presents. I contacted the school and asked if I started a coat drive through my company, could I donate the coats to the kids that don't have one. The school said that it was okay. I did and it turned out great. This year, my wife asked if I wanted to do it again because there are some kids that can't go out at recess because they don't have the proper clothing. I figured I would do it again this year. My wife came home today after work and said that the school is not going to allow it because it isn't a school related drive. Seriously, who the hell would refuse coats and such to kids less privileged. Freaking a$$hole$. Maybe you should go to a Board of Education meeting, get on their agenda ahead of time, and discuss the topic. Perhaps invite a newspaper reporter, if they don't already attend. It sounds like the principal is being a self centered asshat. You should expose him (or her). otoh, I suppose the asshat would then make things difficult for your wife. Because that's how school politics work. I told my wife that I will be running for school board next year and hopefully things can get changed up. We have a couple other friends that are going to run as well. There needs to be a change and we might as well start at the top. Another thing that pisses me off is that the school has a lost and found and they keep the stuff for 2 yrs, if it isn't claimed, they take it to Blue Valley and donate it. I asked my wife why they just can't let a kid pick a coat out from that and she said because they just won't. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it. 2 Quote Link to comment

Yeah, you can find coats at incredibly low prices at places like Goodwill and Salvation Army. Like $5 per coat (as you may already know). Some of the stuff is barely used. I know we've donated stuff in the past that was new, with the price tags still attached. Given this, it's sad that the parents of some kids can't manage to get warm coats. It's a crying shame that the kids are the ones to suffer. I applaud you, Stumpy, for trying to do something about it. +1s Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
Saw Interstellar at the IMAX again. I'm even more impressed with the movie the second time around. It'll proably get another couple viewings from me before it leaves IMAX. The docking scene toward the end is probably one of the most epic, ridiculously awesome things ever put on film. Here's an approximation of the music, since the actual music from that scene is a mix of a couple tracks. Quote Link to comment

NUance
Tunnel to nowhere For years, William Schmidt single-handedly dug a tunnel through a mountain to transport his gold-rush loot. The only catch—he never mined a thing and the tunnel led to a scenic ledge. LINK I guess that's one way to pass the time. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Pizza Hut Developing "The World's First Subconscious Menu" Calling it "the world's first subconscious menu," the pizza giant has since October been testing a special eye-tracking tablet with some of the diners of its 300 locations across the U.K. The digital menu shows diners a canvas of 20 toppings and builds their pizza, from one of 4,896 combinations, based on which toppings they looked at longest. To try again, a diner can glance at a "restart" button. "Finally the indecisive orderer and the prolonged menu peruser can cut time and always get it right," a Pizza Hut spokesperson said in a statement, "so that the focus of dining can be on the most important part - the enjoyment of eating!" The menu, built by Swedish eye-tracking firm Tobii Technology, is the product of six months of retina-scanning development and "psychological research," according to Pizza Hut, which is testing it for now only in the U.K. A potential expansion into the United States could be in the cards, based on how well the pilot system works.
