Let the coaching carousel begin (2012 Edition)

From a booster, Bo's wife will not allow the family to be uprooted from Lincoln at this time. Not much for rumor milling, but this is the same guy that told me about Steve Pedersen getting fired a whole 24 hours before it was actually made official.

Acquaintances of mine have heard Mary Pat say she hated Baton Rouge. If Bo is going to the SEC, he will have to go without his family.

He's making a killing and now he's got his recruiting classes starting to play. He's on the verge of really turning a corner here at NU.

Pretty sure everybody having anything to do with Nebraska football including fans knew SP was getting fired weeks prior....

I look at it this way. If Bo has trouble with the pressure cooker in Lincoln....SEC is cutthroat country and he's been on that recruiting trail before. Plus Bo seems like a pretty loyal guy. I'm sure he'd take his staff wherever he went but he can't take the kids. I still can't peg how successful Bo will really be over the longhaul but right now the team is finding ways to win and I'm not too upset anymore because I'm starting to get used to the "way" these teams get it done.

Well sure we all knew something was coming. But I'm talking about a day before, knowing about the press conference and the whole 9 yards. Exact circumstances before they were made public. That was a glorious day regardless.

I edited talaricohusker's first post by adding the schools currently looking for a new HC. We'll keep all the coaching carousel riff-raff in Rumorville instead of the Other Sports section. Here are some websites to keep up with the latest rumors in coaching changes:

I'm surprised Colorado pulled the trigger on Embree. It's probably the right decision (CU's at the bottom of every statistical category except punting), I'm just surprised they did it.

With their finish last year and a not awful recruiting class, I thought he might have started to turn that thing around. Could not have been more wrong. CU football has been kind of a morbid fascination for me this year. Oh well, it was fun to watch.

Spanziani is no longer with Boston College. Danny Hope is no longer with Purdue. O'Brien is no longer with NC State.

I don't think we lose Bo Pelini to anyone, but some of his staff is a different question.

What are the odds that one of the position coaches leaves for a HC job at some of these schools?

Just read a piece quoting the AD as setting a ridiculous goal of six wins for this season. Just seems to me he set it up to make sure the Embree was not retained.

I dont see any of our assistants leaving quite yet for HC positions, but some of our position coaches for position jobs or even coordinator postitions could be a possibility. Our coordinators still have something to prove before they start reeling in HC offers.

one of the positives of Bo hiring these guys that had little or no Coordinator experience. Maybe they reward him by staying an extra year or two. Instead of taking HC jobs at smaller schools. If we have a lot of success with this group of coaches I hope the AD rewards them financially. A stable staff is very underrated especially in recruiting.

Or Bo generates a work environment and stability that they cant find anywhere else, and they choose to stay on a super long term basis, like Osborne's guys did.

Of our asisstant coaches, who is the most likely head coach possibility? Barney Cotton at a high school perhaps. It seems that Ron Brown is the only real 'journeyman' coach besides Cotton. But he hasn't shown a desire towards being a HC. I think Beck will be the first but his offense is still developing - I think he would want to work next year wt TM as the year sets up for a national championship run. He also has some great QB recruits - so he may want to stay longer and see if he can build an offense that is really special. I think offensively we have that potential - to be really great over the next 3-4 years. At this point, I think the D side of the ball, our assistant coaches don't have enough experience yet to be a HC. Joseph is doing a good job wt the DBs. Fisher has been a pleasant surprise wt the receivers. It is nice seeing receivers who actually block downfield once again in support of the run or the pass. My wish is that the new AD will reward coaches for loyalty and persuade them to stay long term. This is what created the Osborn steamroller in the 90s - on the field consistency begins wt coaching consistency.

IMHO it seems that Beck and JP have the type of personalities that lend towards leading programs rather than be lifers as coordinators. And that's fine. I see structure in what Bo is building on the field. I hope he has plans in place to provide stability once his staff starts getting offers and leave.

I hate that it's this way but money is a huge factor. If JP or Beck has a chance to secure financial independence for their families foreseeable future, then you take HC jobs. Even if its schools like Fla Atlantic. Who knows what their goals are as far as coaching but the money talks. Especially to wifey!
