JTrain
Papuchis is more of a glorified position coach than a DC. He helps Bo but Bo is still ultimately in charge of what defense is being run here. Many people agree that Bo needs to hire an experienced DC to take over. But where does that leave Bo? His only great strength is running the defense. If we bring in a new DC, the new guy will run his own system. Not only would that create never-ending tensions between Bo and the DC, but it takes away Bo's only real strength. I agree that responsibility needs to be taken off Bo's shoulders, but it's hard to see this being the most effective way. Perhaps bringing in a new OC that has proven management skills and tagging them with the Assistant Head Coach designation? Quote Link to comment
Nobody
Bo will never fire JP. I honestly believe that Bo values loyalty more than any job. Quote Link to comment
True2tRA
Bo will never fire JP. I honestly believe that Bo values loyalty more than any job. A good friend would understand. Quote Link to comment
commando
wasn't loyalty 1 of the factors that Tom liked about Bo? Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
It's pretty obvious that Bo is pretty much calling the shots on D. All the heat directed at Papuchis is pretty unwarranted when it comes to in-game decisions. Personally, I would like to see Bo just hand the reigns over to Pap altogether and just be the Head Coach as a Head Coach is supposed to be. Let's see what Pap can do. Let's see his creativity. Maybe he'd be much better than Bo thinks he would. 1 Quote Link to comment
JTrain
If Pap was let go, how many BCS AQ teams would consider hiring him at DC? Two or three maybe? Quote Link to comment
Lyons in the Sea of Red.
I think where it would benefit most would be to bring in a new set of eyes. Someone who sees solutions differently than Bo and his assistants. Quote Link to comment
Husker Red Til Dead
How about loyalty to the program above all else or GTFO! Quote Link to comment
TheKiD
Wasn't loyalty one of the things we criticised Callahan for? His refusal to fire his buddy Cosgrove? Quote Link to comment
NUance
Bo will never fire JP. I honestly believe that Bo values loyalty more than any job. A good friend would understand. Shawn Watson understood. Quote Link to comment
BaytownHusker
How about we just switch to a 3-4 and run a simple defense. Quote Link to comment
LumberJackSker
even a head coach like Saban has proven OC and DC, Smart and Nussmeier both are proven guys, Nussmeier had called plays before at fesno state and Washington and Smart has been with Saban since his LSU days and worked his way up, these are the kind of guys Pelini needs on the staff proven coaches not just a bunch of unproven yes men Quote Link to comment
gbr93
There aren't many head coaches who aren't also "in-charge" of one side if the ball or the other. I honestly can't think of any. I just think we need to bring in someone that isn't afraid to bounce new ideas around. Pap seems to just be a "yes sir" kinda guy. Could be wrong though Quote Link to comment

Not that I'm disagreeing with your principle, but your Smart example is a complete opposite of it. In fact, your explanation of Smart if 100% the same situation as Papuchis is to Pelini at the moment. The only difference is lack of success. Quote Link to comment
ladyhawke
So, if Bo made the decision to fire JP-who would he choose to replace him? Quote Link to comment
