If it was as simple as bringing a blank check to negotiations then schools like Tennessee wouldn't get turned down by the head coaches at Duke and Air Force when they were replacing Kiffin still under the shadow of running off Phil Fulmer.

I've seen over and over. Schools get rid of a winning coach thinking they can do better and nine times out of ten, it backfires.

In those situations did said coach ever win their conference or, in Fulmer's case, a National Championship?

Bo is a paper tiger. Look at his W's they are craptastic. The national media has even released articles saying we are no longer on an upward trend. Guess what we do if the next HC is not the answer? We hire another one until we find the right fit. That is football if you want to play with the big boys. You honestly cannot think that we have a snowballs chance in hell of competing with the likes of Bama, FSU, Oregon etc. Hell we cant even compete with the likes of UCLA, S. Carolina, Georgia. We struggle with teams like Minnesota and Northwestern. We are no where near elite status and Bo has gotten us no where. 0 conference champions, 0 bcs births, 0 top 10 finishes, 0 top 10 recruiting classes. We have top 10 fan support and facilities and not a top 10 coaching staff. EXPECT MORE and do not let Bo lower your expectations!

To go one step further. Are you telling me that a coach cannot look at the B1G and think wow all I have to do at NU is beat Wisconsin and then take a shot at tOSU to get to the playoffs and take a shot at a MNC. If/When Bo is let go lets see what other blue blood picks him up as HC. Just like Solich, he ended up at Ohio. You didnt see a big time school want anything to do with him.

Osborne won his first conference title in year 8

Actually we were conference co-champions i/e we tied for 1st in Osborne's 3rd and 6th year in the Big 8.

Yes. But counting those is like counting every time we played for it as a conference championship.

Regardless it's still a share of the conference championship in his 3rd (NU ranked #9 at the end of the season) and 6th year (NU ranked #8 to end the season) which shows both consistency as well as true potential unlike Bo which a poster above was trying to somehow compare Tom's record to.

Bo deserves another year. You have to chalk up injuries as a major factor to us losing these games. When you don't have your best players available, you can expect the standard of play to go down.

I'd counter this by saying we had the easiest schedule to date in the Pelini era so there really are no excuses. This season was gift wrapped for us and we didn't want it/don't know how to take it. This division is a joke. Our Out of conference schedule included a team that hasn't won a game going on almost two years now and a middle of their conference wyoming team that almost beat us. We have senior receivers and plenty of depth along the line. The defense is young but skilled.

The whole painfully obvious picture is it's the same result regardless of the schedule, players, staff...we are a consistently average team. Sign me up for another year...

How so? Why did the final standings not reflect this, and why weren't we selected to play in BCS bowls?

To me the difference between 03 was we were 2 years removed from the National Title game. How do you panic and pull the plug like that. Pelini's teams have accomplished nothing. 9 wins means nothing today. They play 12-13 games! We've won our division 4 times. Okay great the weak big 12 north with the only real competition being missouri and the Big 10 with michigan state being the big threat....a team that was 0-7 against Nebraska (so not a powerhouse). The best thing Bo has accomplished in 6 years is an almost win over texas in the title game and blanking an average arizona team in the bowl. That was the peak...almost 4 years ago! So there's the big picture.

Here's the microscope. Turnovers...tons of them. Penalties...lots of them. Players admitting they weren't focused in big games. A defense that struggles to tackle. A glaring lack of leadership from players (although we seem to have a few stepping up now). How do you defend all this stuff...year after year?

Again, it was Solich's off the field stuff that got him fired. Had that not been the case I'm pretty sure he would have had another year for sure. Do I think he would have turned things around? Probably not considering who his offensive coordinator was.

You don't defend it. You accept it. This is Nebraska and with all the disadvantages we face, we can never be an elite program again.
