NUpolo8
So there's a pretty interesting metric over on Grantland looking at the conference and the West division of the B1G. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/wisconsin-badgers-2014-big-ten-sleeper-pick/ It, uh, doesn't project good things for the good guys. But, interesting take nonetheless, and it shows where Nebraska slots in the eyes of many. Quote Link to comment
Saunders
That preview is awful. He suggests that since Wisconsin lost all it's close games, the law of averages says they'll win some of them, and since schedule is easier, they're gonna win the division and B1G. It could almost make sense in a vacuum. But teams change, and Bucky is replacing most of their defense, including the front 7*, while also losing their only receiving threat, and having a starting QB that the fans want benched while being battled by a guy who was playing safety last year. I'm normally a fan of grantland, but this is isn't a good article. Also, his "power rankings" are hilariously awful. *Inb4 someone bitches that 1 guy started 3 games in the non con. 2 Quote Link to comment
RockyMountainOySker
I put zero stock into whatever the heck this guy is thinking. 2 Quote Link to comment
papersun87
not nearly up to Grantland's usual standard. Quote Link to comment
RyouN?
He listed turnovers as a major constituent in his formula which for most teams would produce a fairly reliable prediction, except for nebraska. We have been able to beat the odds there fairly reliably. Funny how he believes there won't be any competition in the west for the badgers. Quote Link to comment

darkhorse85
Ed Feng (@thepowerrank) has a PhD in chemical engineering from Stanford and runs ThePowerRank.com, a sports analytics website I think he should stick to chemical engineering. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm not sure how a 4 year regression model is considered an accurate way to predict the upcoming season. Quote Link to comment

LukeinNE
Should be good bulletin board material for our guys. I don't know what this season holds, but the maddening, yet captivating thing about Pelini's teams is that we know they're capable of almost anything, good or bad. Quote Link to comment
Joe_5700
Ed appears to be doing nothing more than grasping at straws as to why Wisconsin will win the west... I could probably create a more compelling case for Nebraska in a lot less words are charts. Quote Link to comment
deedsker
Wisconsin has the easiest schedule, therefore, they are conference champions...makes sense. Quote Link to comment
sd'sker
it does when a lot of people think donu will not win the division because we have a tough schedule. Quote Link to comment
