Eric the Red
It seemed in past years the defense didn't peak until the second half of the season. This year it seems we are a full half season ahead. Why has this occurred this year and what prevented this from occurring in the past? Quote Link to comment
Eric the Red
My 2 cents....we figured out who our best players were in fall camp versus subbing many times during the first three games of the season. Either way, we look strong. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
We'll know Saturday. Im concerned about that side of the ball. The injuries are piling up. Add JMitch along with a questionsble Santos(who just so happened to have the light come on right before getting hurt-go figure) and we could very well be marching up to East Lansing missing over half of our expected starters (alexander, moss, Rose, jackson, Santos, Mitchell). This is becing a serious situation. Im also curious on the Tariq Allen injury. That didnt look good either. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
About 30% of the points we've given up are on the first drive of the game. After we settle in, we've been pretty good. Quote Link to comment

The Dude
Last night was the first time in years I felt confident the defense was going to come out and make a stop. They were lights out after that first drive. Not sure if we'll be able to afford spotting MSU 7 points like that. Quote Link to comment

If the guys can keep Cook and Lippett in check the D should have no problem making stops. I see a Miami game plan for this game. Own the clock and keep their offense off the field. But, the biggest question is if we can stay on the field long enough, we can't just rely on Ameer this game. Quote Link to comment
Glendower
About 30% of the points we've given up are on the first drive of the game. After we settle in, we've been pretty good. I don't know why people are comfortable with this. This is really, really unnerving. If there is a slugfest with an actually good team, giving up a free TD on the opening drive might be very crippling. I honestly don't understand what's going on. On that opening drive against Illinois, there were holes that were 10 yards wide. It was completely bizarre! I am willing to accept that these have been virtually unrelated flukes in the first few games (meaning that there were just different, unrelated mistakes in the first few games that had similar results) and that it's an "easy" fix, but if it's just something that the D is going to do, it could end up hanging a millstone around the team's neck for the entire game. I'm sure the staff and team are studying film to figure out what's happening. I hope it's all sorted out soon! Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
With the D being so young I think the coaches prep them through the week for what past film on next weeks team shows them. It appears each team is bringing something new to the table and since the kids are so young they can't react properly the first few series. The coaches get them together on the sidelines so it can be talked out. Thankfully our offense has been able to put together long drives that allow our D to rest and talk thru the game plan. But it shows that they can make adjustments. There were times in years past where we wouldn't figure it out until the team had scored 2 or 3 TDs. Quote Link to comment

StPaulHusker
2 things I notices with the defense that has helped them look as good as they have. 1. Talent at all 3 levels seems faster and stronger 2. They seem to understand what they are doing. Too many times in the last few years, there seemed to be a lot of confusion on the defensive responsibilities. Leading to numerous timeouts or people out of position. Not as much this year. I believe Rose was and is the biggest loss of the year, which magnifies the injury to Santos. Not to say the others aren't big losses. As we go along hopefully Zaire will become more and more of an impact player where ever they use him at any of the LB positions. I think we're seeing that our depth is fairly good in the secondary and Gerry is a baller. Quote Link to comment
