Mid Coast Offense
Mike Riley was Eichorst's #1. http://journalstar.com/news/local/education/perlman-no-other-offers-made/article_5198a6ba-b968-518d-aec7-354a67b45b27.html University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman said Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst had a list of "potential candidates" for the opening, like any athletic director would. "They do due diligence on a bunch of them as time goes on so they are prepared to act when it's necessary," Perlman said. "In these situations you don't have much time." Riley, who has coached Oregon State for 12 years, was the only coach offered the job, Perlman said. "There were no other offers made," he added, disputing national media reports that Arkansas coach Bret Bielema was offered the NU job on Wednesday. Perlman said he kept regents informed during the coaching search via email. 2 Quote Link to comment

I mean, if even half the rumors of the past four days were true that'd mean Eichorst was flying around the nation like Santa Clause on Christmas Eve night. 6 Quote Link to comment
Danimal
Don't forget that Pedey said the same thing, and no matter how much he hid behind semantics of what constitutes an official offer practically speaking we got turned down several times back in 03/04. Our search was much shorter this time around, it's quite possible Perlman is telling the truth, but if another coach could've had the job and passed he would never tell us. Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
I believe no other offers were made. I don't believe Riley was the only target. As good of a coach as everyone says he is, that's not due diligence on the part of Eichorst. Quote Link to comment

Eh if SE had a short list and he inquired his top 5 and only Riley stepped forward then I would believe HP. Also it was a 4 day search. We couldn't really have been turned down that much. It was 4 days not 40 like in 03 Quote Link to comment
Hunter94
Perlman is a liar.......i don't believe him.......once BB turned us down, they dropped way down the list so we wouldn't be shunned twice...we got a 5-7 coach no one else wanted. 1 Quote Link to comment

HANC
The next job offer at the University of Nebraska should be the Chancellor's position. He is a doucher. 2 Quote Link to comment
ColoNoCoHusker
Once they fill the open President position & the person gets up to speed, I wouldn't be surprised to see Perlman start to exit. Quote Link to comment
Hannibal
I believe Perlman is telling the truth. SE clearly had his man in mind before Bo was officially fired. At this level, you don't approach someone and have all the contracts negotiated, drafted, and signed in 4 days. SE prepared for this well in advance. 1 Quote Link to comment

HP has done great things for the university and is extremely well respected. http://www.unl.edu/chancellor/bio.shtml Quote Link to comment
admo
Not sure if this is valid, but I heard the list was 1. Riley 2. Navy's OC 3. Barry Alvarez 4. Bryant Gumbel Glad he went with Riley Quote Link to comment

Anyone who thinks this happened in 4 days needs to get their head examined. Eichorst AND Perlman made up their minds no later than after after the Minnesota game and probably after the Wisconsin Game. Quote Link to comment

That doesn't even make sense. First, hasn't everyone with personal knowledge of the situation said that NO OFFER was made to that fat hog Bienema? Also, if, hypothetically speaking, Bienema was Eichorst's top target, then why would he go with a coach that was pretty much the antithesis of that fat slobbering underhanded Arkansas Hog? Is there anyone more opposite to Bret (fat f'ing hog) Bienema than Mike Riley? It seems like if Bret had been offered and refused, then we would have ended up with some slightly less successful version of him. Instead, we signed Mike Riley who everyone pretty much agrees is a decent guy who runs a clean program. I don't think our administrators at UNL are liars just because we didn't sign some coach who you seemingly have a weird sort of man-crush fat fetish on. Deal with it. 2 Quote Link to comment
