OWH: Bo Pelini insults A.D. Shawn Eichorst in expletive-filled rant during final meeting with players

I'm blown away that there's still anyone defending Bo at this point. It's honestly laughable.

Just look at the mere fact that instead of spending the last 30 minutes he'll ever have with this team telling them how much he appreciated them and wishing his players well, he instead spent it calling the AD a "c***" and making sure everyone knew that he (Bo) was right. That's all you need to know.

exactly.

I don't think anyone is truly defending Bo. I just think that what people are saying is that some people deal with things differently.

I agree with your assessment of how he should have spent his last few words with his players. But I also know that those players probably genuinely appreciated seeing Bo be himself and for truly speaking from his heart and being as raw as possible with them. Sometimes it is more meaningful to hear stuff like that from someone you care about than bullsh#t. Bo was just speaking his mind. Those players know that about him already.

Again, I am not defending Bo. I am far from disappointed in his departure. In fact, this whole thing just showed me how much more appreciative I am of having a very low ego guy like Mike Riley to lead us and our players. I am sure that if there is ever a hot mic on him he'd probably be talking about how dreadful the weather can be on his bike ride to work in the winter, but he still really loves snow.

At the end of the day, it is a relief that we no longer have this toxicity around anymore.

He never won a conference championship or national championship, that is correct.

But you said he can't win, which is false.

How many conference title trophies and national championship trophies does Mike Riley have in his 15 or 20 years of coaching? 1? With a 58% or so winning percentage. What's that called? Winning?

It's called you having no idea of context.
Erickson got 1 in 4 years in the exact same situation, literally. Context.
Might take care to check and see who recruited Houshmanzadeh and Ochocinco
Agree, I give him credit for that.

Still find it odd he was never able to coach his own recruits to one 11 win season in 15 years, but Erickson did once in 4 or 5 years.

Check your timelines. Things don't happen in a vacuum. Erickson was there before Phil Knight started dropping giant sums of money into the rival 45 min down the road. USC was also very down at the time. They hired Carroll in 2001. Also note that the 11 win season occured in a year where only 3 Pac 10 schools posted records over .500. The Pac10 was in a serious down period then.

Fair enough. PAC 10 must have been on a serious up swing in 1997 and 1998.

Oregon State had a run of 28 consecutive losing seasons. The 5 wins in 1998 was the best performance since 1971. So yes, the down Pac 10 did help Riley get OSU turned around, but this was a reclamation project on par with KSU prior to Snyder's arrival in Manhattan.

What! Are you f*cking kidding me. I feel like I am in the Bible belt of America, gee, he cussed in front of 18 years old men. I think that these tape are sure convenient to leak to the press IMO. He was venting to the team. I am not offended by what Bo says.

Anyone who refers to people as c***s is a loser in my book. I don't care who he/she is talking to.

Poor Bo, he doesn't even know how much he is hurting is career.

No worries. He has 8 million dollars coming. I'd personally take a sabbatical and go fishing.

All jokes aside, I'm so happy he is gone. Obvious issues beneath the surface besides the blowouts we endured against good teams. Riley will at the very least change the mind set of "us and against the world" mentality. I think we will improve overall regarding wins losses in two years or less.

Everyone should thank Bo for turning the program back in the right direction from the pederson-callahan debacle instead of bashing him.

We owe Pelini a lot less than he owes us. We gave him far more than his ability, experience, and character deserved.

Exactly, that jackass wasn't qualified to be the HC and NU. The only other guy Tom interviewed was Grobe and he was told that he had to use Tom's old assistants and couldn't bring his own. So that is why Grobe turned down the job.

Then you throw in how he was an a-hole to a lot of people in all walks of life and finally how incompetent he was as a HC and IDK why anyone would stand up for this ass clown. He was lucky the Tom was terrible at picking HC's as both were unqualified and the results showed in games against good competition. Not to mention he endorsed Peterson and as great of a HC as he was, Tom was as equally as bad of an AD in that perspective. It has been obvious for several years that Bo needed to be fired, but there were too many delusional fans and Tom was too worried about his legacy to do what was right for the school. Which is why it is a good thing that Tom isn't making decisions anymore.

Yeah, I guess turning around a bad team, no cheating, graduating players, having players love him doesn't deserve a simple thanks or good luck. Or at least not a ripping.

Im not pretending he didnt do a lot of harm with this most recent act. It sucks to read about, it sincerely does. Im sure a lot of us know people who know him personally, mine happen to be family that were a part of his foundation.

He has A LOT of room to grow and A LOT to learn as a coach. Its a shame he couldnt cut his teeth elsewhere before his stint here, his tenure probably goes a lot better if this wasnt his first HC gig. But thems the brakes and he is gone now.

He is gone now.

He

Is

Gone

Now

From here.

Let the healing begin, but first washout the wound he dumped salt in on his way out the door. As I said very unclassy thing to do and it is pretty disappointing.

He got more than enough of that. And he doesn't deserve a ripping? WTF universe are you living on right now!?

OWH has the audio.

Already listening to only 5 mins, and the transcript, at least the one I read, was not exactly accurate.

For instance, he asked the board to get rid of himself, not SE

Would like some more straws? It's embarrassing the way you're grabbing for them.

Penguin shirts are cheap.

:wasted But why no +1? :dunno

He did tell his players he loved and appreciates them, he just tossed in a few f bombs and female genitalia references while talking about his old boss. But he did tell them he appreciated them.

As an afterthought at the end of his bully pulpit rant, sure.

I would say that having your outgoing coach use 99% of his last time to speak with you as an opportunity to sh#t on the AD instead of giving you words of encouragement would be x1,000 times more insulting than having the AD tell you your coach is fired via an e-mail.
