Assessing the new coaching staff

Guy has done an absolutely amazing job up to this point.

Well, true.....he reportedly did say aw shucks to the media with a big smile. Of course we'll see what Riley can do.....but it's rare for a program like Nebraska to hire a coach who had 3 losing seasons out of his last 5.
Probably because the last time we hired a coach with previous college head coaching experience was Devaney.

There's youth and there's experience on this staff.

Maybe the biggest thing is that youth and experience aren't two separate ideas. The young coaches have been around the block.

Also, lots of NFL flavor. When you spend time with players who list "football player" as their occupation, good knowledge is likely to follow.

Here's a list of all of the assistant coaches and tertiary staff members Riley has brought on, courtesy of the OWH.

The hot rumor about a lot of these guys is, they're good at recruiting. Who are those recruiting gurus? What's their experience?

Wait... "Mark Banker, DC for Oregon State"

Is that the only thing he's done? Like, did he not coach football ever and then became the DC at OSU?

Did he win the position in a raffle or something?

This staff is like the football equivalent of searching craigslist and putting in a $250 max filter hoping you find some steals that you get good use out of instead of paying full sticker price at a furniture store.

I like this staff a lot, they seem very hug worthy but in the back of my mind I think Nebraska went a bit on the cheap side on obtaining a coach. Aw shucks, what if Riley fails? What's Nebraska gonna do then after it's been left behind now for 20 years? Go to the goodwill for another coach?

But I think this staff will do fine I love them and would hug each and every one of them with my own two arm things

Where exactly did we come up short ? You guys act like we penny pinched while looking for a coach. We went out and got the coach we wanted. It only took a few days.

it's because we're only paying Riley 2.7 mill, down roughly .6 mil from Bo's final salary. But poeple who bitch about that dont wanna point out the list of incentives, or the overall massive uprgrade in pay for the assistants. but they will. Once the first game rolls around and this staff clearly coaches circles around anything we've seen the past 11 years.
I just don't get the New Riley Haters. Guy has done an absolutely amazing job up to this point. He hired a staff that on paper is solid. Let him coach and after that bring your pitchforks. Hell most of us didn't start bitching about our last HC until he was 4-5 years deep as HC here. Support our current staff and let them show you what they have

Never underestimate the Husker fan base to self loath their own program or what is happening inside that program.

are you talking about 7 years in or 2 months? Im confused.

Constantly. Doesn't matter.

I like the fact that everyone on the staff really seems to appreciate the Husker tradition, and are happy to have the opportunity to coach here. I also think Rilley has emphasized recruiting skills when hiring position coaches. I expect to see an improvement in recruiting. I wonder how many opposing coaches played Bo's Ohio State tirade to Husker recruits, and asked the recruit if they want to play for a coach who doesn't like the school, and doesn't want to be there.
