He had a nice resume and he was just as impressive as advertised, if not more so. We lost a good one with him. Stewart is older, definitely, so much more veteran, but both are impressive coaches. Stewart's reputation seems to be more in the drilling & coaching aspect while Warren's was with recruiting. Broadly speaking bnillhome is correct: the difference in experience between the staff Riley has put together and the best of Bo's staffs is staggering. However, Warren & Stewart are both very worthy assistants. I mean, Warren was picked by Riley to stay as well, after all. 4 Quote Link to comment

Almost all of the moves could easily be viewed as moving up, except the immediate move after being the Cowboys DC. Mid level to Big 12, the Syracuse move is kinda lateral, then to the NFL, then to DC. Then the step back to a position coach, then a move to a DC at a mid level, a move to a P5 DC. Now here. I was going to make a similar comment. Plus, he may have had some bad timing in terms of being with a head coach who gets fired after a couple years. I think he may know what he is doing.I am not trying to say he isn't qualified, but when he was DC for the Cowboys, he wasn't the guy running the defense. Wade Phillips was the HC and real defensive coordinator, while Jason Garret ran the offense. I think this is a good hire overall. I am not worried about his numerous stops in his past. That's life as an assistant coach in football. Pretty much what I was saying. He also wasn't "running" the defense in Houston. the only worry is that he likes the 3-4 and we aren't running that. Shouldn't be too big of a concern though. He was the guy teaching the fundamentals and schemes directly to the players while under Wade. Phillips was a good designer and schemer, but not real good at player interaction, I kind of thought Stewart was great at communicating with players at Dallas. Someone pointed out Mike Riley had Stewart on his staff at San Diego Chargers, so he knows what to expect. Pretty synchronistic, if you ask me. Quote Link to comment
