Lewis' father, Bill, also served as captain in 1985. Alex and Bill Lewis became the third father/son pair after Tom, Barrett and Bo Ruud and Dean, Ty and Baker Steinkuhler to serve as captains for the NU football program. The group also marks the 10th straight season a Nebraska native has been named a captain. Gangwish is a former walk-on from Wood River. He becomes the second walk-on in three seasons to become a captain. The last was Spencer Long in 2013. Damn good group of guys there. Right now is when the real leaders of this team step up and push everybody to give a little extra in the work out sessions. This team needs to find the next level and it starts with their physical preperation. 1 Quote Link to comment

Scratchtown
I think Gangwish is the big surprise here. Happy he is, but surprised I wasn't. He's a teammate guy. Super happy for a former athlete of Wood River. Even though I only coached him one year in football AND wrestling. I have no doubt he will hold this honor with high regard and make the fans of NU proud. Quote Link to comment
Bigred_inSD
Four of the 6 are also juniors 1 Quote Link to comment

He is and gives 110% to put that N on everyday, I am really pulling for him. 4 Quote Link to comment
teachercd
Honestly...I see 6 guys here that make All-Conference teams in some way shape or form. Quote Link to comment
lo country
Six guys who walk the walk and talk the talk. They are all performers and the "better" athletes on the team. I also like getting juniors as captains. Maybe reading too much into it, but looks like Riley is trying to develop a culture of leadership that is cultivated and grows. Meaning you get underclass men involved this year and have more "experienced" leaders next year. Looks like Riley is trying to develop depth in all areas. I like it. Quote Link to comment
