Are you a paid shill for Riley? What is the going rate for throwing players under the bus in a weaksauce attempt to prop up Mr. Mediocrity?

Not that I don't trust this, but I wanted to verify for myself. I stopped checking after Chris Long, so if anyone else wants to verify from Luke McNitt down, be my guest. Everyone listed as a walk-on on this list is, in fact, a walk-on.

And that is very, very sobering.

All when they started in the program were walkons and not highly recruited by many D1 schools. Brandon R lost his schollie over the summer mostly because he has been injured a lot.

Link to comment

85 schollies. DPE hurt so that is 1 guy down. 13 of our incoming fresh redshirted. So that takes us down to 71 available sholarship guys that could travel to the game. 3 or 4 of the walk ons are specialists which is not too surprising (K,P,LS). The rest are mostly products of the great tradition of walkons at Nebraska. If we didnt have those guys we would be furious that we killed the walk on tradition. (Utter, Gangwish, Dzuris, Foster,Hovey, Janovich, Reilly) Those guys start for a lot of big ten teams so I dont see what you are saying about roster talent issues. This loss was on execution and poor initial game planning by our defensive staff not bc we missed on a couple guys in the recruiting process. That happens everywhere.

Someone in the comments section of Sam's Rewind columnegged this as well:

Kevin Koenig · Owner at The First Rule, LLC

Talent is the main issue. You should dig a little deeper on this and compare Nebraska to the other Top 40 D1 programs (let alone Top 5 in tradition like us) and see how their depth charts stack up to these facts, courtesy of friends:

* The 2011 and 2012 classes should be the heart of this team, yet they had a combined 35 players in them. Of those 35, 18 of them are no longer on campus. Of the 17 that still are in Lincoln, we have 10 adequately contributing players. The top three are TA, Valentine and Westy. Those aren't true difference makers that other programs would want or gameplan for. They are solid players though.

* We had 79 players on the travel roster for the Miami game, 24 of those were walk ons. 30% were walk-ons....think about that. 9 were true freshman that Riley recruited and DPE and Valentine were also out.

* Based off that two-deep game-ready roster, we have a total of TWO position groups (counting the OL as one unit, same with the DL and defensive backfield) where we don't have a walk-on in the two deep. Those two positions? RB (FB got it's own group) and the defensive backfield. That's CRIMINAL for a program of any stature, let alone ours. We shouldn't have more than 1-2 walkons seeing the field for significant playing time at any point. Twisting this fact into a bash against the history of Husker walk-ons would be wrong. That isn't the point. The point is, the programs on the rise around the country do not have these depth issues that Riley inherited FROM the prior staff's lack of recruiting and player development.

See above. 85 on scholarship. 11 are former walkons. That's a fact. Do you want the whole list?

Also, while we're at it, for his "facts" to be meaningful, we need to see the same numbers for other teams. How many walkons is average for FBS travel rosters?
