knapplc
In what is perhaps the least shocking news of my, or anyone else's lifetime, it turns out that if you introduce guns into an environment where there's lots of kids, eventually a kid will get hurt. Who's OK with their kid getting shot at school by a well-meaning teacher instead of by an ill-meaning bad guy? Nobody? Alrighty, then. Quote California teacher accidentally fires gun in class, students injured A teacher who also serves as a reserve police officer accidentally fired a gun inside a Seaside High School classroom Tuesday, police said, and three students were injured. Dennis Alexander was teaching a course about gun safety for his administration of justice class when his gun went off at 1:20 p.m. Teachers are not legally allowed to have firearms in California classrooms, even if they have a concealed carry permit. Alexander, who is a reserve officer for the Sand City Police Department, was pointing his gun at the ceiling when it fired. Pieces of the ceiling fell to the floor. A news release from the Seaside Police Department said no one suffered "serious injuries." One 17-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries when fragments from the bullet ricocheted off the ceiling and lodged into his neck, the student's father, Fermin Gonzales, told KSBW-TV. The teacher had just told the class that he wanted to make sure his gun wasn't loaded, when the gun fired, according to Gonzales. 1 Link to comment
Moiraine
Things like that will happen. There are also going to be teachers with tempers who shoot kids. It might be extremely rare but it will happen. Edited March 14, 2018 by Moiraine Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I'm sure all the Northwestern students and faculty feel safer now that there is someone on campus with a gun. Isn't that how this is supposed to work? Link to comment

Danny Bateman
Shocking. The NRA hopped all over another tragedy to stroke their victim complex. Shocking, I tell you. What an absolutely garbage organization. 1 Link to comment
Moiraine
This is a little off topic since I'm not really posting about what he was calling about. Quote Noah Christensen, 17, dropped an F-bomb when he called his congressman's office to demand action on gun control. The Nevada teen's school suspended him for two days. He is now at the center of a debate about decorum and free speech. How the hell is this even a debate? Can you imagine, as an adult, getting a phone call from a 17 year old who's concerned about getting shot in school and says a bad word, and your reaction instead of letting it roll off you is to call his school and tattle? On top of that, you think calling might actually lead to discipline? Can you imagine working at a school and thinking the correct reaction (instead of ignoring the idiot) is to suspend a kid for swearing at someone who's not on school grounds? There's no way this is okay. I have a lot of respect for teachers but I've always thought schools are a breeding ground for some bitter adults who like to powertrip over the kids.
