***Official Wyoming Game Discussion Thread***

I would have prefered more of a running game. The numbers of total run plays are skewed due to the run plays to run out the game. But I would have liked to see the offensive line wear down Wyomings defensive line and have had a very good running performance. I just thought there were too many passing plays.

But a win is a win, and considering what we went through last year, 2-0 is a great start. The defense looks very solid. Will need to do much better next week to get a win.

GBR!

Wyoming was selling out to stop the run, leaving passing lanes wide open for the most part. NU did a good job of making them pay in the passing game.

There were times when Tommy got "cold" in the 3rd quarter where I thought NU could have ran more, but Wyoming was taking that facet of the offense out of the game.

Good point.

I am excited for the game next week, but nervous because I really don't know what team we have here. Also, not really sure what type of team Oregon has either. The Ducks are going to be running cute schemes with smoke and mirrors, and the team needs to understand that IF they get ahead, no matter the deficit, Oregon can come roaring back quickly.

I'm not sure that's worth an unsportsmanlike penalty but it was totally a dick move.

Edit: it was hilarious.

Agreed with all of this. Unless, Gerry made some remark when he handed the ball to Allen, then I'd say it was unsportsmanlike conduct. As someone else mentioned, there is ALL KINDS of crap that goes on in the game, especially in those dog piles. Handing the opposing QB the ball after picking it off seems pretty minor to me. I don't know how Allen didn't get a penalty though.

Without that baffling pick in the end zone it's a great game by tommy

I dunno about that, Tommy nearly threw two more picks. He had a decent day and didn't lose the game for us.
I hate the "nearly threw more picks" comment. All QB's will have INT's dropped or have passes "nearly picked".

The bottom line is that Tommy has thrown 1 INT this year in 44 pass attempts. To me, that's not a terrible %. Going into the year, if Tommy were to throw 6 INT's for the entire season that would be great. I would be pleased at anything 10 or under.

I think the near INT comment is perfectly valid against an opponent like Wyoming. When people make comments like this they're thinking about what those throws will turn into when we face a decent opponent. More than likely they will be interceptions.

That's not a terrible %, I agree, in fact its pretty damn good. Those two near picks were pretty bad decisions by Tommy and downgrades his A to a B+ for the game imo. W/o those two passes I'd give him an A for the game and say you were spot on. But for me, those two extra bad decisions downgrades him to a B+ for today. And a B+ is not a bad grade, its a pretty good grade that leaves room for improvement.

And I'd be pretty ecstatic if he only throws 6 picks all year. I think we're pretty darn close to 100% agreement here, we're just fine tuning that agreement right now. biggrin1.gif

100% correct. Against Oregon those two near picks ARE picks and one is a pick 6. That changes the game in a very bad way for us against higher quality competition.

Ummm...no. DBs drop INTs all the time, NFL included.

You're nitpicking a little here. Oregon has more talented players than Wyoming. They're more likely to catch those errant passes.

Sorry but I don't necessarily agree. I don't think teams recruit cornerbacks for their catching ability. Cornerbacks drop INTs all the time, at every level.

Saying that an Oregon DB is going to make that a pick 6 is pure speculation. It hasn't happened, so we don't know if it will. DBs are made DBs because they don't catch the ball well enough to be a WR, along with their coverage skills and athletic ability.

Those were two very easy picks, all the DBs had to do is hang in. Oregon's DBs are more likely to complete the int imo than Wyomings were.

While you can make the argument that DBs at all levels drop balls...well, so do RBs, WRs, and TEs.

I think we should see if Tommy throws a bunch of picks against Oregon before getting mad at Tommy for throwing a bunch of picks against Oregon.

USC dropped like 5 easy picks in the bowl game a couple years back. They bring in as much talent as anyone.

The line of reasoning that those passes will directly carry over to INTs against Oregon doesn't really hold up.

Nobody's doing any of that. People are expressing concern at him throwing the ball directly at the opposing defense and hoping he doesn't do it against better opponents.
