LAblackshirt
Its 14-0 in the first quarter and Ryker just got sacked. It appears another blowout is imminent, and I have gathered many people on this board are already done with Riley. I have been pretty clear that I still am optimistic, and this game doesn't change that a whole lot. Regardless of whether Riley is the real deal or is not, there is a bright side. After a blowout bowl loss (not completed but likely) we can all now take solace that Riley will have likely only one last year to turn this thing around completely and start impressing. Next year we will get to watch a QB battle like one we haven't seen in 8 years, and we will get to learn Riley's fate. So hold on tight Husker fans, I don't think we will have to wait long for a conclusion (not like Pelini). Eichorst fired Pelini stating specifically blowouts as a reason, and here we are with 2 (3?). He will be forced into action if Riley doesn't dramatically turn it around. Does the board agree? Only one more year to find out Riley's fate? Quote Link to comment
84HuskerLaw
It is too early to tell but they complete lack of offensive line play is certainly a major concern. Obviously Fyfe is not doing well but he has had dam little chance to do well. Not sure what the story is with all the 'injuries' but we certainly need to get the experience for the young guys anyway. So play them. Bench those seniors if we see another TD added to the 21-7 margin in the second half. I am not sure the technical score of win or loss is as critical as that we not get beat by several TDs and look awful in the process. Right now, we are being pummeled in my view and if there is not some serious magic at half time, then the embarrassment will follow. If we are being hammered, let's atleast get some playing time for the younger guys and begin getting ready for next year. Quote Link to comment
fb30
I'm guessing he will get 2 more unless we have a losing record next year. Then maybe. Quote Link to comment

Even if we lose, which looks likely at this point, we still end the season at 9-4. We've seen improvement this year in terms of our overall record, and Riley seems to be doing the right things to keep moving us forward. So no, I don't agree that next year decides his fate, not unless the wheels come off the wagon in spectacular fashion. Next year we'll have a bunch of redshirt freshmen to help with depth issues. We'll see our first pro-style quarterbacks since the Callahan era. Fo Fiddy's influence on special teams will have faded to a distant nightmare. And we just signed another ace recruiter. Personally, I'd like every one of our coaches to be ace recruiters but I also realize that is probably not very realistic so maybe just 2 or 3 more? Quote Link to comment

Using your logic we should never talk about Mike Riley as a head coach at all because "Its just beating a dead horse". I could show you a million threads that mention that subject, does it mean we can't talk about it? We should probably stop bringing up our 5 national titles as well huh NM? Can't be talking about those in different threads. If you could actually just write-up what subjects haven't been covered before more than once we can all go ahead and just consult your list prior to posting. Great work 3 Quote Link to comment

I think Riley's fate for beyond next year will depend on his recruiting. IF his new QBs that we have been forced to 'wait and see' while we desperately needed on this year are NOT really good (and that is tough to expect as they will be completely inexperienced and 'young') it will be tough to recover. But the dismal finish to this season is not good so wins are going to be preciouis indeed in the coming year. And with the extreme difficulty of the schedule in both '17 and particularly '18, the play of the first couple Riley recruiting classes are going to be critical. Quote Link to comment
skersfan
Yea were getting beat, Riley is missing tackles, failing to block, he is just a bad player. Take three top players away from any team and see what you get. Not to mention all of our running backs. I know next man up, but not a sole on here is next man up, so quit your whining. We are what we are, have been for 15 years. I think they have gotten the word that some are not happy, who gives a F. So tired of the continuous whining, bitching, complaining about a process that has gone on for years. This staff is trying to make the improvements in recruiting. It is needed, but it does not happen overnight The kids are trying, have not quit. I stay away from the this giant cry baby site, it is more depressing than the games. 4 Quote Link to comment

skersfan
Were not a good team, have not been for a long time. May never be again. Take Josh Dobbs off of Tennessee's team, do you really think it would be the same. Highly doubtful. We are not as fast, as strong or athletic as Tennessee. We need time to develop depth. The fact that kids have not quit, are still trying their butts off, should make most happy, but not Nebraska fan, 95 keeps popping into their brains. Everything is the same, well everything but talent and depth and one of the greatest coaches college football history, other wise it is just the same. Quote Link to comment
HuskermanMike
Caleb Lightbourn had a really good game game today. Special teams looked improved from what we have been seeing previously with Read. Ryker played really hard and gave it his all today. We kept fighting in a game that looked out of hand in the 3rd quarter and never quit either. Quote Link to comment
