ZRod
What's going on here? This is all pretty fishy. Trump says he's pulling out, the gas attacks really benefit no one (in the sense that they would keep the US in the region), and now supposedly false reports of fail cruise missiles attacks. Assad's only shot for his own people not turning on him and things getting REALLY ugly is to continually paint us as the bad guy. Up to and including gassing his own people to provoke retaliation, which he's done before. At least that is my take. It's similar to how Trump always has to be fighting some evil adversary, real or imagined. There's always got to be some third party at fault. Link to comment
TGHusker
Expect big over reaction within the next 48 hours. Why, John Bolton is now officially a part of the team . Trump says he https://www.axios.com/trump-syria-decision-24-48-hours-d3885366-c6ca-4327-95c3-0698ce68df68.html The bold below: How much confidence do you have in them 'figuring it out' now that Mr Bolton is the head of NSC? Quote The big picture: Trump had previously promised that there would be a "big price to pay" regarding the attack in a series of tweets yesterday, which featured him calling out Russian President Vladimir Putin by name. This morning, Trump continued with his harsher rhetoric against Russia, saying that Putin "may" be responsible and any response would be "very tough." He added, “If it’s the Russians, if it’s Syria, if it’s Iran, if it’s all of them together, we’ll figure it out.” Link to comment
TGHusker
Of course - who needs John Bolton when you can bypass all of Trump's advisors by talking directly to Trump via Fox News http://theweek.com/speedreads/766205/fox-news-guest-speaks-directly-trump-during-bizarre-segment See video also Quote If you want to have a word with the president, you don't necessarily have to go through Chief of Staff John Kelly first. Fox News guest Bassam Rifai demonstrated some clever resourcefulness Monday when he simply turned to look into the network's camera and said: "President Trump, I am speaking to you directly." Trump is, by all appearances, an enthusiastic viewer of Fox News, with his fiery tweets often following segments on the network. Rifai, a member of the Syrian American Council, used his moment in the spotlight to advocate for military strikes against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "Do not make the same mistakes that President Obama had made," Rifai said. He urged, "What we need to do right now is take out Assad's air force. If we ground all his air force, he won't have the capability to attack Syrians by the air anymore." Link to comment
Danny Bateman
File this under "totally inappropriate use of government position for personal gain:" I mean how much more blatant does it get? 1 Link to comment

Unfortunately a recurring trend in politics is most stuff is legal if you have enough wealth or power to get away with it. Here's another reason to not re-elect the president in 2020. He can't even handle the basic requirements of the job. I guess he just doesn't have the stamina? 1 Link to comment
TGHusker
So during the campaign, Trump is critical of Obama for 'telegraphing' his intentions to withdraw from Iraq. So Trump as president has telegraphed 2x recently - that we'll be withdrawing soon from Syria and now this: He tells Russia, missiles are on the way. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6022894/donald-trump-twitter-russia-syria-airstrike/ 1 Link to comment
Danny Bateman
Probably not the best decision to telegraph your foreign policy decisions on Twitter. At this point Trump is such an unreliable lunatic on Twitter that it may not matter. 1 Link to comment
LumberJackSker
He's telegraph this so the russians can withdraw their advisors from sites that are likely to be hit. Link to comment
