Why are you saying this to me, and why do you think it’s unpopular? Biden is a bad candidate. He should not have someone like that with his campaign, especially as a Democrat. It’s okay to admit it even if he’s your favorite in the group.

If only there was a Dem candidate that refused corporate or PAC money...

Because you replying to the video Frott posted. Presumably you meant how we're screwed if Biden winds up being the next president.

The video he posted isn't surprising in the least. It's the normal type of corruption our political system lets fester and permeate that we shouldn't have to worry about. But we're not screwed. Biden's just wrong within the normal parameters.

I don't think Biden is a bad candidate, FWIW. Just not one of my top choices.

I didn't watch the video. The country is screwed because it's basically an oligarchy now, and the candidates who won't take $ from the huge corporations are painted as crazies/socialists by people taking that $.

It should be intuitively obvious from my other posts all over the politics forum that I will vote for a flaming turd before I will vote for Trump.

The country is not “screwed”.

We are going through a bad time with a pathetic president that has allowed the lowest of lowest scum in America to feel empowered.

That too shall pass.

Seriously....it shall pass.

What people need to realize is that a certain part of our population has always thought our country was falling apart. That’s just the nature of the beast.

Our country, 30...40....50....100 years from now will still be a world power with some of the highest living conditions in the world.

There will still be people that struggle and fight to make a living.

Again....a nature of the beast.

And we will continue to try to get better.

I had the opinion before Trump became president, because money is becoming more and more intertwined with politics as laws preventing it are eroded, and we are becoming or already are an oligarchy. That wasn't the case 20-30+ years ago. And I don't know about you but Trump showing how weak our checks and balances are seems pretty unprecedented.

I dont think moraine is saying we are screwed if Biden becomes president. Just that the fact politicians are able to take bribes and put lobbyists on their campaign is a problem. Hes doing the same crap as Clinton, which is so unpopular with normal people that they rolled the dice with Trump.

As bigredbuster was saying, the stuff with Trump will pass, yes. But the bigger issue is why Trump was elected in the first place. Not everyone who voted for Trump is a racist. Some wanted to see change and they got duped into believing his lies about draining the swamp. Unless you fix the issues that people actually care about: healthcare, education, living wage, climate change, etc. there will be another Trump that comes along. The first thing that should be done is to get money out of politics. Make it illegal to take what is now a legal bribe.

You have to be a little careful with that argument. Even our country is only temporary and it too will pass. Remember that 100 years ago the US was not a superpower. Likely the US will not be a superpower 100 years from now.

Pretty much this. We have a huge overall problem that’s getting worse and worse as time goes by. I hope Trump is a blip, but the other issue is not and there doesn’t seem to be much effort to fix it, probably because the ones that could fix it are the ones getting $ from the problem.

That said I don’t think Trump will be a blip if he’s president for 2 terms. And some of what he’s already done could have lasting damage. Luckily some of the s#!ttiest things he’s done are executive orders so those can be reversed once he’s gone. That’s why it sucks the GOP went all in on gerrymandering in 2010. If Obama could have passed laws instead of doing exec orders, it would have been harder for Trump to change some things.

Ya. And it’s something that should not be taken for granted. I feel like even the politicians that are less selfish can still be guilty of that, so with some issues they figure they can just pass them on to the next group.

We should be doing everything we can to stay in that position.

I challenge you to find out where the corruption is with Bernie Sanders.  Please share if you find it.

Sanders was one of the people I'm talking about who is painted as crazy, by the same kind of people as Biden's campaign chairman. The people making s#!t-tons of money off of our healthcare system don't like Sanders.

She mentioned this in a post on the last page by saying the ones that are uncorrupted (Sanders, Warren, Justice Dems) are labeled as the crazy ones and the ones nobody should take seriously and shes right that this is what happens by not only the opposing side but mainstream media also. Corruption is considered normal in these circles and its a sad thing.

Do you actually have receipts of people labeling progressives crazy?

Because if not, it seems like we may be conflating them being called crazy with more moderate Dems saying not every voter is a leftist progressive. Which is true.  IMO both sides have to be able to critique each other. It can't only be progressives critiquing moderate Dems that is fair game.

You have to be living under a rock to think they haven't been painted as crazy and that that isn't a goal. Their policies would hurt people with a lot of $ at stake. As an example, the word "socialist" is used dismissively on them all the time, as if that word by itself is enough. And the conversation is about politicians taking $ from huge corporations. Any who do it, progressive or moderate or whoever, is fair game. Those who don't aren't. The post wasn't about general critiques, but a specific one. But another thing to keep in mind is the ones who are talking about new ideas aren't as deserving of the attacks because they aren't the ones whose ideas have failed in this country (at least not yet) - they haven't had a chance to fail yet. Not all new ideas have merit, though, so yes they should be critiqued too. But there is nothing critiquable for not doing drug companies' bidding.
