Moiraine
It makes total sense that non citizens would commit less crimes. Lots of them fought to be here. The rest of us take it as a birth right. Link to comment

Aside from looking like he lost a fight with his chapstick, I thought he did great. Provided quite the contrast from Trump. It was his only job, but he did it well. The only thing stupider than a televised SOTU (I admit I watched it!), is a televised "rebuttal". (I didn't watch it, but was a bit surprised on the selection. I suppose the Dems will use their pick for 2020 next year) Link to comment

Anyway, didn't listen to a lick of this deal, but I see Trump is busy spreading misinformation about immigrants again. The scapegoating of the immigrant looking to come to America is truly one of the saddest aspects of the Trump presidency. I didn't realize how fully the GOP would buy in to his hardline rhetoric. Remember, Trump & people like him (looking at you, Scott Walker...) cannot pass their agendas unless they cloak them in massive ignorance & hope people don't notice while they sneak them by. Did someone yell "You Lie" during a SOTU speech? That is rather uncouth. Link to comment

National Democratic leadership needs to be about 100% more compelling. With all due respect to Joe Kennedy, we need a fresh face more than we need a brand name dynasty The bold got me thinking about the missed opportunity and the message they may have sent without knowing it: If the Dem party wants to talk about the disenfranchised they should have considered that: The Kennedy Family is a 1%er It is a dynasty name like Bush, or Clinton, or Adams or Roosevelt - thus it doesn't promote fresh faces or ideas When you consider the "Me Too" movement - Joe's great uncle Teddy had the not so small issue wt Mary Jo & the car going into the lake- she was Great Grandpa's secretary. It shows how power and privilige got him off the hook and therefore diminished her life. So Joe Kennedy the 3rd represents white, wealthy, the privileged - It seems to me they should have presented an 'anti-Trump' figure in that spot- a polar opposite. Someone who would reinforce their cultural message. Harris or Booker or another person of similar background. Link to comment

(that doesnt excuse it) Rahm demanded his ID, and an apology. Wilsons actions were renounced by at least a few republicans, and I believe he apologized. Should we expect the same regarding the Boo-birds" last night? Can you imagine the CNN article should Kelly demand their ID's and an apology! The outrage on CNN would be worth it! As is, I really don't care! Its all political theater . FWIW Wilson was essentially right! (That doesnt make it OK either!) Link to comment

We cant know if Obama believed what he was saying or not, and it still doesnt justify the lack of decorum. 1 Link to comment

Guy Chamberlin
So just to confirm, a President shouldn't lie to the public, and when compelling evidence proves he's lied, both parties need to address it on behalf of the American people. 4 Link to comment
