Big Ten Announces Future Schedules (2022-2025)

Recommended Posts

There's an easy fix to this: keep one protected rival and rotate between the other two teams every two years. Then, after a 3 year rotation, switch the PR. For example:

- 2027/2028: OSU, Rutgers, Michigan (PR)

- 2029/2030: MSU, Indiana, Michigan (PR)

- 2031/2032: PSU, Maryland, Michigan (PR)

- 2032/2033: OSU, Rutgers, PSU (PR)

- 2034/2035: MSU, Indiana,  PSU (PR)

- 2036/2037: Michigan, Maryland, PSU (PR)

And so on, and so forth. This gives you at least one marquee game, one "cupcake" game, and the constant rival for three years.

What's so special about 2026? Does the current TV deal expire or something?

The Big 12's current grant of rights expires in 2025, and the buzzards are already circling to pick at the corpse.

I agree with that; there's absolutely no reason why we should play Ohio State 4 years in a row and Michigan only once.

Think you've got that bass ackwards?

Considering their performance last year, they might prefer that...

This. Probably not a coincidence that this goes through 2025. For those who don't know, that's when the Big 12's current grant of rights expires, and moves are already being made to clear a path for OU to potentially enter the Big Ten once that happens.

If Oklahoma even considered moving to the Big, they would only continue any interest if they could still play UT every year. If this actually happen — probably a long shot — that should be the team for N to play last in the regular conference season.

That's incorrect. It's already been documented by their former AD that Oklahoma is fully fine with splitting away from Texass, as they now realize that Texass made it nigh impossible to get a Big XII television channel (and better media deals) than other P5 conferences. Plus the fans are fully on board with going to the SEC (which won't happen), and Texass wants nothing to do with that conference. If anything, I could see Oklahoma alternate scheduling Texass and Oklahoma State as a non-con opponents mid-season, as a 12-game season with only three non-con slots makes it difficult to give two up to the same opponent every year.

Plus, Oklahoma is working on improving their academic cache (see their $1B recent investment). That can't be done in the Big XII or the SEC, and is independent of whatever Texass plans. This is a *big* driver for their campus.

The Big XII GOR expires in 2025. The reason that Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texass are opposed to adding schools to the Big XII is because they have enough votes to block extending the GOR, which would prevent those aforementioned schools from bolting to greener pastures--adding schools add votes and dilutes their ability to keep the GOR from being extended.

Also, Fox Sports (who owns the BTN) has already been in discussions with Oklahoma about putting their third tier content (that currently airs on Fox Sports Oklahoma) on other channels, including BTN. If Oklahoma goes forward with this, it makes the B1G transition all that easier when it actually happens.

---

And Fox Sports Oklahoma is going away as part of the deal Fox struck with Disney--all of the regional Fox Sports channels will be going away, but Disney will be getting the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other properties back, as well as other movie franchises (e.g. Aliens). So it's a fair trade.

And yes, this now makes the Alien a Disney Princess.

Pretty sure you meant 2025, not 2015

And for lack of worthwhile teams that actually want in on a dying conference...

Theres actually a few that would help the conference, especially when one factors in the Big XII media footprint:

-Colorado State or Air Force

-Houston

-Tulane

-Cincinnati

Two of those four/five teams have been ranked in the past couple of years, which is more than what can be said for many of the current Big XII Schools. And they all fill gaps/expand media market for the Big XII.

@VectorVictor My expectation is that the future of the Big XII will play out kinda like the old Big East's collapse did: schools that can find a better home will bail, and the remnant will look more like the AAC than a P5 conference, probably with some schools like the ones you mentioned joining. Biggest question is what will become of Texas. Nobody else wants them - the only reason the Big XII still exists today is because they're the only conference dumb enough to let Texas have their own network. Will they be OK with being the biggest fish in an ever-smaller pond?

As long as they have political control of the pond, they don't care. Remember, they were exploring independence just a couple of years ago.
