knapplc
Quote Big Ten football title game draws second-largest crowd in 7 years More than 66,000 college football fans attended Saturday’s Big Ten Football Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium, making up the second-largest crowd in the title game’s seven-year history. The crowd of 66,375 on hand to see Ohio State’s 45-24 defeat of Northwestern inched past last year’s game attendance by about 500 people, but fell short of a complete sellout. Lucas Oil Stadium's approximate capacity is 70,000. Publicly available tickets on online exchanges were sold out by Thursday afternoon, generally leaving the only unbought tickets in suite areas. Suites at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Big Ten Championship generally start at $3,400 for eight people. The local economic impact of the game has not been finalized by Visit Indy, but the championship was expected to generate about $18.1 million in hotel stays, restaurant tabs, ticket sales, transportation fares and other revenue. The game has only been declared a sellout once in its history—in 2015, just under 67,000 people attended the Michigan State-Iowa Hawkeyes game that featured two Top 5 teams. It has brought more than 66,000 spectators three times since its inception, including this year's game. The worst-attended Big Ten Football Championship was in 2012, when Nebraska and Wisconsin played for a crowd of 41,260 people. Hard to believe Nebraska's only trip to the Big Ten Championship was the worst-attended game since we joined the Big Ten, but I bet that'll change next year when we get back there for the first time under Frost. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Probably because we were facing the third place team in the other division 2 Quote Link to comment

Maybe the crowd was mostly Husker fans, and Wisconsin fans didn't show, hence the lower attendance? That may be a question for eyewitness @Landlord Quote Link to comment
Lyons in the Sea of Red.
I was there. Had seats in the upper deck in one of the end zones. Upon getting off the escalator up top, we were promptly ushered right back down because we had been the recipients of a "complimentary seat upgrade". I'd say the crowd was fairly equal on both sides. The entire trip was a blast minus the score. Quote Link to comment
HuskerNation1
I was at the 2012 game and it seemed pretty full to me and it was a fun experience despite getting our butts kicked. Quote Link to comment

That may be a question for eyewitness @Landlord I meant I was there this last saturday for Northwestern/Ohio State. I'd imagine though that the 2012 low attendance was some combination of Nebraska fans unexcited for playing a supposedly inferior team and also taking it as a given that soon thereafter we'd be playing in the Rose Bowl along with Wisconsin fans not really interested in their 7-5 team that got in only because the two teams very far ahead of them were hit with sanctions.
