Return of the Peso package?

Recommended Posts

Gerry is a SAFETY!!!! Keep him there. He is playing great there, and let continue that success for another 2 1/2 years.

Right?! I can't believe people would want to move one of our best players out of position (where he makes plays) because we're lacking in another area.

Plus, the Peso back needs to have a lot of lateral quickness. I am not saying Gerry doesn't have that, but he seems to have a lot of straight ahead speed, and plays very fast from the safety position. The last thing he needs is another position change to make him uncertain about things.

Look. I understand hes a SAM backer and we've been in nickel and de most of the time, but god damn it, Zaire Anderson needs to be on the field EVERY FRICKIN SNAP. This is just one of those obvious things i just dont get. With the Rose injury he is CLEARLY the best backer we have but seemingly has the fewest snaps. Mind numbing.

Wait... who were the seven DBs in this package last night?

I'm not opposed to putting the 5th or 6th DB in for a LB if they're up to snuff. Leave Gerry alone. This would help stop us from bleeding yardage to a RB out of the backfield.

Keiran Williams was in as the 3rd safety, along with Cockerell at Nickel and Kalu at Dime.

The OWH wrote that NU was lining the 3 safeties near the LOS then drop one into deep coverage. That's how Gerry was able to get the INT in the 2nd quarter. He was playing center field and the QB didn't account for him.

Considering we have Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa left on the schedule, I think we see a lot more base defense than anything else the rest of the way.

(Rutgers also used to run more of a pro style offense that we'd use a base defense against but I haven't seen them this year to know what they're running.)
