  1. Who wants to travel to Kansas for the spring game or anywhere else for that matter... The Huskers would have to do home and away on this type of game.. Leave it as is, no sense in trying to make something more interesting for the fans, when it has no value to the team or players.. GBR
  2. I also think this is what Landlord was probably referring to, but I'm not sure because he didn't respond so I don't really want to speak for him. But...what's the point of holding the scrimmage if everyone is half-assing it? It kind of goes back to the threads about conditioning and the level of intensity of practice. Injuries are going to happen. It's just the name of the game with football. But if it's an 'understanding' that your practice or scrimmage isn't full-speed, then what's the point of even doing it? edit: Landlord responded when I was typing this...I predicted the 'injury' argument...but not the 'scouting' aspect. I'm not sure...I think even in a scrimmage, both teams would work hard to win, but still not show their entire hand.
  3. Case in point,, one of the slowest wr in my limited memory dating back to 1962 was Fred Biletnikoff.. I think he did ok in college and the pros..and wasn't nearly as big as Jariah...Welcome aboard Jariah..GBR
  4. UCF played no one... just like Boise State,,, sometimes a team with a month to prepare can surprise the favored team.... Baylor gave no respect to UCF during it's bowl preparations, it showed during the game.. no disrespect towards ucf, but if they played in a real conference, they would not have been in the position they were.... give them credit for winning, but to rank them 10th is pathetic... Do you really believe they could navigate a 8 game schedule against real competition week in and week out..... Nebraska was one of the darlings of the B12, moved to the B10 and had to re-adjust everything they were doing in order to compete.... the B1G schedule is a meat grinder... play 8 now 9 games against those mamouth O and D lines. No other conference has that top to bottom,,, no not even the sec... the top half of the sec is good, the bottom half is 0-36 against the top half.... the top half isn't that good,, this bowl season bore that out.... Iowa played with LSU all game, just fell a little short... Iowa is not one of the B1G's top dogs,, where-as LSU is considered one of the big boys in the sec..... Oklahoma exposed Alabama... Auburn couldn't beat Fla State who played no one during the season.. got up 21-3 and couldn't hold the lead..... South Carolina looked better than they were once Stave was injured. had he played the entire game,, I give that game to Wisconsin.... Missouri had Okie light which never has played D.. once they fell behind, it wasn't going to happen for them..... I'm bored with the AP and ESPN... It's like the media is with Obama... the man has done nothing(not one good thing on his resume) in 5 yrs but bring this country to the brink of distruction financially which will also bring this country to it's knees and socialism, and the media sings his praises...Sounds alot like sec bias with obama huh.... The media controls what the perception is in any given topic... their inability to stay unbiased is about as likely as the house and senate representing the people that put them their.... Sorry didn't mean to get off on politics,,,, but the point was to shed light on the media, which has lost contact with reality.....So pay no attention to the AP poll, it means absoluety nothing... Who cares who's 2nd or 22nd.. only one team hoist the crystal deserving or not... GBR
  5. he's a beter recruiter than coach.... I haven't seen anthing special about his coaching... He may be great, but it hasn't displayed itself on the field/// His recruiting however seems to be one of the best on the staff....GBR
  6. I have always had a dislike of OSU... and Urban.. However, B1G bowl wins only help set up the conference as stronger... Next yr that will be important for the playoffs... We need at least 1 team in no matter who it is...... GBR
  7. #2 same complaint lodged at TO nearly every year up to 93/94
  8. Yeah,,, lets not enjoy the first bowl win in 4 yrs... It seems to me,, that during the 70's/80's we played in more than just the Orange... As I recall, this isn't the first time playing in the Gator Bowl.... I usually like your post and agree with Accountability.. but what a negative Nancy;;; let's enjoy the win and hope for better things.. instead of just always finding fault.... GBR
  9. I never said I didn't like coaches yelling. It's just he has this monster face he uses. As I said earlier, I find it embarrasing. Yelling to be heard, and raging are two different things. But hey, that's just my opinion. I understand the levels of noise and the urgency to get a point across. How about you stop deciding what is or isn't my sport and discuss the topic. He's not deciding what your sport is... He's stating the obvious... if you ever strapped on a chin strap, you would understand what he's saying.. you just don't like Bo's facial expressions.. it just how intense he looks when he does it that bothers you... it obviously doesn't bother the players.. This BS started with poking TM in the chest for breaking team rules during a game.... Bo addresses a problem when it comes to his attention, and he doens't care what you think. he's running the team his way, it's his job to keep or lose.. who are you to say you don't like his facial expressions.... I agree with him... you are just a band member that has never suited up.. you want to be handled with kid gloves and would walk off the practice field before you even had a chance to play because your feeling got hurt... Grow up.. it's the media that sheds the ugle light on Bo.. he hasn't (at least in my memory) used profanity laced rants during games, like Iowa's coach caught on video using more than one that I wouldn't want underage kids seeing.... grow some and get a life.....
  10. I wish we would have had social media since the 70's to see how reactions to games and plays would have been judged by all the arm chair coaches/wide receivers/qbs etc.... It depressing to open topics about the game and see so much negative bull s///t... We won... both teams played on the same field.... yet some husker fans expect 60-3 over five yrs, if not we suck and everyone associated with the program should be fired.... the players are not talented enough.. Are you guys for real or does your wife/girlfriend give you so much grief that you have no other outlet to show your displeasure with your life you need to bash the players and coaches.... Sorry about the run on sentence, I just needed to get that out.... Husker fan since 12yrs old (1962).. Some of you so called Husker fans need a wake up call... GBR Now it's your turn to bash me.. I don't share your opinions (most of you) so you view me as uninformed...
  11. yes. I had to pause the game and collect myself... It's a disgrace the way they called the game....GBR
  12. Haven't followed husker baseball much. So will someone explain to me why we only play 8 of the 11 teams in the B1G during regular season.
  13. I agree with you. Blackshirt are traditionally handed out to the first string D. Over the course of a few yrs, the name blackshirts became so much more, the proud tradition of wearing a black shirt in practice became legendary. It has nothing to do with how good you are as a D, it's that you are the First String Defense for the University of Nebraska, even if you aren't as good as some before you. We're spoiled by years of success with BD, TO. legendary coaches aren't replaced easily. This D will be the most improved in the B1G this year. If the season begins and you're starting D, you should get a blackshirt. Pride has been know to win games at times. GBR
  14. Interesting that most on here say take the money. How many of you would exchange your college education for 200K as a 18 or 19 yr old. The money would be gone in no time, if you don't make it to the show, that 200k seems really small. On the other hand 4 yr education and then play both sports and give yourself a chance to develop into a major league prospect or NFL draft pick, if not you still have the degree. Smart money takes the education. College grads sometimes have a difficult time finding gainful employment, imagine having just HS diploma.
  15. Neither did Bo. Most of that was obviously done during the 2008 season. Very little of it carried over into 2009, and almost none of it existed in 2010. The 2008 season and definitely the 2009 season proved Callahan wasn't very far off from what Bo is currently stuck on. If it took him 5 years to fix some cultural issues, invite some past players to the games and rehang some pictures then we're definitely f'd going forward. Here's a question for everyone. Hypothetically..had we retained Callahan, he fired Coz, then proceeded to post the exact same win/loss records and achieve the same as Bo has over the last 5 years...would he still be here? Or would we be saying...he's had 9 years, this isn't happening. Because I'm not seeing a huge difference between 6 years, an 9 years in the life of a head coach. This is a pivotal year for Bo. End with another 9 win season, and not compete for the CC (we didn't compete last year either)...I just can't see him being here in 2014. I make few comments here, but this one I couldn't let go. Your hypothetical is a fairy tale, Callahan wasn't and X and O coach. a fool to change to the west coast offense with the current talent he had. Have you lost your ability to evaluate a situation/team/season? Your question/comment shows the intellect of a 7 yr old. Open your eyes and your mind and it would be obvious that Callahan didn't have a clue even as an NFL head coach. Callahan could recruit..... (the extra periods indicate the end of BC's talent) Pelini could go 7/5 and he won't be fired. A new AD with one yr under his belt on the new job, isn't going to fire a coach with one so so yr out of six. Let's put things in perspective. Changing offense/defense scheme, Changing conferences after 3 yrs, need to recruit differently for B1G, current players on roster at time of conference change were recruited to play in B12. Yeah, is all football, however IMHO, the B1G is a superior conference is every aspect. i consider Pelini's first two seasons in the B1G successful. The first year, he played a bowl game every week, the second yr he had some familiarity with the conference teams, but it was only the second season in the B1G, with arguably the toughest in conference schedule among the top 5 teams, yet finished with at least 9 wins. Give the staff credit for what they have accomplished. Changing conferences is a difficult task, just ask West Virginia, or TCU. West Virginia was picked by some to win the B12 in their 1st season (much like Nebraska was) and experienced the same fate as Nebraska did in the B1G. It's difficult to change conferences, play new opponents weekly and still win at least 9 or ten games is a decent accomplishment. Does Pelini need to do better? Absolutely!!!! He's fixed his offense, no it's time for him to go back and get his defense playing like they should. I for one think this season could be very special, with all the talent on offense, and speed and talent (although young) on defense. Do you recall Peini's 1st season in Nebraska, did a great job with a defense stunk up the place the yr before, came in after callahan and did the same again. He needed to spend time on the offense to get the right coaches and players in place to accomplish his goals, he's got the offense going, now with his full attention back to the defense, I see great things, and I don't usually drink much kool-aid, and I'm not drinking it now. Just a fan of over 50 years seeing the Big Red Machine getting turned around and heading back to top ten finishes and playoff contender. GBR
  16. It's early summer, I'm going all optimistic here. I'm not proclaiming another David, but the talent level is certainly better than last yrs. We're very young, players will make mistakes, hopefully with all the added speed, one players mistake will be covered by another's speed and talent. It's going to be interesting. I had the same thoughts as you've stated. When Bo devoted all his energies on defense, it became dominate. He switched to the O leaving the D to Carl. The O got better each year, now they carry the team. With Bo back with the D, I'm looking for exciting games from this young D. Hope eternal. GBR
  17. The video is prior to the 12 season. Comment made that Taylor was only half way through his college career.
  18. EATING CROW and a big helping of it as well. I wasn't a Taylor fan as far as him being a QB, which I've stated on these boards, I viewed him as a great athlete out of position (like Baker). I realize my talent evaluation skills were biased due to bone headed plays. I sold him and the coaching staff short, It's obvious his athletic ability allows him to play the position. Learning curve not considered. Not only that but, he was and is the best option at QB. The most important factor is he wants to be a great QB and his work ethic in becoming one is outstanding. If he improves just 50% of what he did last yr, he will go from being scary dangeous (great wheels, so-so arm, ok decision making skills) to scary dangerously scary (great wheels, good arm, good decision making skills, he gets this last upgrade for being in the same system 3 yrs). He as IMHO the greatest talent depth at wr since I've been a fan (1959) and his running backs could be deeper and as good as some of the best I've witnessed. The opportunity in 13 is there for the O. If the D can come together with the infusion of talent and speed and little experience, this could be a memorable season. So, I'll sit here eating my crow with a glass of kool-aid and look forward to an exciting season GBR
  19. Big fish in a little pond. Little fish in big pond. Which would you rather be?
  20. And here we have the great divide between Bolievers and the opposition: whose fault is that? The young, inexperienced defense this year is largely a reflection of poor roster management and awful recruiting a few years ago. I understand there are naturally going to be up and down years, and we still have a lot of talent on defense, but there's going to be way too many growing pains this year for what there should be in a coach's 6th year. You completely missed the point. Then what exactly is the point of you saying "we're loaded with newcomers" in response to Headly saying "there aren't any excuses"? Sure sounds like an excuse to me. One that Bo is responsible for creating. Recruiting for the B12 vs B1G seems to me to be quite different. The O needed help and it seems to me Bo spent more time with the O, and the O has only gotten better. The D has suffered, but Carl had one yr. (which I think Bo trusted him in handling the D,I think he failed) The Rookie Pap takes over D and it wasn't bad, it just didn't have enough speed. Now Bo is spending the majority of his time with the D, and I don't think he forgot how to coach D. He came to Nebraska the first time and coached that teams D to a high level (first yr in the system for those boys). With his attention to the D this yr, with the talent and speed on that side of the ball (yes very young and without experience) that makes up for a bevy of mistakes. (example David's first yr. I'm not proclaiming any of the youngsters as the next David, but there are players on D that could step up to that level. GBR
  21. I wonder,,,, what if TO didn't promise the job to Frank, and stayed for another six or seven yrs. The four yrs after he retired weren't to bad... (his recruits). Osborne got pretty much any recruit he wanted. We all know that the Huskers would have continued to play for the NC on a regular basis. So the argument that Saban isn't done yet, doesn't hold much water with me. His record over his current run isn't close the Osborne's. So even if he stays at bama. He'll have a ways to go to play for as many NC as TO did. Husker fan over 50 yrs. Only one team I've witnessed on TV or live, had a chance to beat the 95 Skers, Which would be the 83 Skers, and I'd have to give the edge to the 95 squad. I'd have to say the D was stronger in 95. GBR. (I did consider the 2000 Miami team, but in the end, Huskers win)
  22. Do you mean skill positions players like Rodgers, Green, & Crouch to name just three. Talent isn't relegated to the South & West only. They have more of it, but it isn't any better.Higher population area's playing football nearly year round, red shirting in HS, Some have more opportunity to develop that talent due to the area in which they grow up. Thus making them more polished and higher rated. It doesn't necessarily mean a three star isn't better talent wise. Selling the home state kids short, without considering the added element out of state player don't possess. Grow up in Nebraska and being able to play for them is a dream come true for most. Perhaps a little shorter on talent than another, but a better player due to emotional commitment. Obviously I don't agree with you. I apologize for being so long winded.
  23. I travel the boards of the BCS schools and a few others, All teams move players to a position of need or the player may be better suited to play a different position. It's usually a very talented player being buried in the depth chart at his original position, The staff is trying to find a way to get him on the field. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. Steinkuhler is a perfect example in my opinion. A 5 star offensive tackle switched to D tackle. Great talent, but out of position.
  24. I've been on the fence with Bo since his hire. Initially I watched him coach up the defense while Watson handled the O. The D was clicking pretty good. Next I see Bo switch his attention to offense, now this is clicking, not so much due to his expertise, as his ablility to get the right coach in the position. I also recall the head hunters out when he promoted Beck (one of his so called yes men) to OC was a bad hire, we needed someone with experience. It seems to have worked out ok. Now, I have an opportunity to watch him mold this defense, loaded with young talent that's fast. Bo once again has his choice of DC and now he gets to work first hand to develop this D into one that's more like we expect from him. Ahhhh, to think, an offense that's cooking and a defense that's steaming, can't wait!!!! As you can tell by my comments, I'm no longer on the fence, I witnessed Coach Osborne go through similar pressures, fans wanting his head. Bo is the right choice. Given the time, Bo will bring home the hardware on a consistant basis, or be competitively playing for them in heart stopping contest. GBR
