  1. This may all be true but when Eichorst was fired did Riley change any of that? Did he make any significant change at all to try to change the trajectory of the season during the bye week when he was about to play two below average teams that could have shown the leadership to attempt a turnaround effort to save his job? Did he take any personal involvement in gameday responsibilities for any of the phases of the game that were constantly failing? Did he stand up and say enough is enough? To his team, to the media to the fans or to either of the new AD's? No he did not. That isn't on Eichorst or Perlman or Alverez or Diaco or the Boogeyman. It's on Riley.
  2. You don't need an elite QB to run this system. Milton is not an elite runner or thrower but he's smart and just good enough. He's basically Joe Ganz 2.0 The guys on the roster can be that atheletically - it's wether they have the football IQ that will make the difference.
  3. Was it tough for Frost? Sure it's always a tough call to make a huge decision. Expecially when you are undefeated with a young team. But it wasn't THAT hard and it wasn't all about emotion either. Dan Mullen has zero ties here. He was our 2nd choice and had an offer from Florida too. Mullen was taking the Nebraska job over the Florida job if it was offered to him. Our 3rd choice was Justin Fuente. He also said he wanted the job and would leave Virginia Tech for Nebraska. He just turned down FSU. All these it was hard stories are nothing but lots of overinflated PR fluff and weak conjecture, this wasn't a pity hire.
  4. Yeah who would have guessed benching one of your best safeties to move your nfl caliber corner to safety so the #1 safety recruit in the country could play corner would be a bad idea.
  5. Yep. They have a stud OT (which we need badly) with offers from OU, MSU, Georgia etc. and he's going to TCU. He was interested in Nebraska... the staff didn't even look at him.
  6. FWIW, UCF had just one defensive player on the roster that weighed at least 300 lbs. They still handled Maryland's line better than a couple B10 teams. They wouldn't handle a full season of that but still. We always need more beef but we aren't in dire straits either. The Twins, D. Thomas, G. Thomas and D. Daniels form a solid core and I wouldnt be shocked if Freedom and Alex Davis swap positions.
  7. Even better. Strong. Aluminum foilers seem too fragile and tin foilers are just plain crazy.
  8. If we hire Lubik I wonder if he and Frost make another run at Yankoff
  9. I know. I was kinda worried before I watched this team play that a lot of their success was due to lucking into an under the radar Marcus Mariota or Eric Crouch clone that is hard to consistamtly get... I've watched a couple games now, The kid Frost has at QB is basically Joe Ganz 2.0. We can work with that.
  10. Memphis is the #2 scoring offense in the country. Memphis averages 40+ points a game and has put up 50+ 4 times and scored 70 twice. Only one team has held Memphis under 30 points this entire season. That team was this UCF team, whom beat Memphis 40-13 about a month ago. This is a rematch game against a team they blew out earlier in the year and their coach is leaving after the game. The fact that this doesn't look like the 2012 B10 title game is actually impressive in a way. We will find out if he's good or not but this game is hardly a good litmus test.
  11. Unless he has to drive past Disney World to get from the game to the airport where the Husker jet is waiting then no.
  12. Oh the headaches of coming up with a nickname for the Fast offense and the Speed defense.
  13. Mark Dantonio. Already proven he can beat top East teams. He'd dominate the West most years Already proven recruiter in Big Ten, Nebraska would enhance that range to a national level and he could win a few of the head to head recruiting battles with the likes of Meyer and Harbaugh here for Great Lakes area talent. Runs a system that would suit our current roster but actually builds his team around having good lines on both sides of the ball, a good power run game and good Defense. I'd take Dantonio over every coach not named Saban, Meyer or Pedersen.
  14. I finally figured out why I don't like Fleck! He's the skinny Ron Prince. We are losing to skinny Ron Prince.... now I'm sad again.
  15. Please. Michigan hasn't won a title since 1948. Notre Dame hasn't won one since 1988. We still draw big on TV, The national media spent 3 days talking when we fired our AD for cripes sakes. We're fine. We just need a real coach and we're right back in the picture.
  16. Heres where the D is right now We have a nosetackle who plays his ass off but his size and leverage make him vulnerable, expecially later in games. We have one legit DE and a coverted TE who is a bit undersized and spends most of the game just being a body. Our best outside linebacker is a walkon and there really isnt any other good options on the roster other than Stille on either side. Our middle linebackers are ok mosly but get caught in the wash and fall for easy tricks. - this is the one area we should be much better than we are right now.. Then there is the Secondary, our top 2 guys have missed most of the year, our safeties have been a revolving door of injury and the guy they hired to actually coach the secondary died. Williams is primarily a recruiter, the guy now running the secondary was supposed to be sitting behind a desk in a consultant role.
  17. Collins and Valentine went pro after getting higher than expected draft grades. Gregory was gone the second Pelini was fired. It didn't mattet who we hired he was gone. Moss wasn't a coaches decision. He was banned from campus. Can't play if you can't be in the stadium or classroom. McMullen and Williams... maybe, Though McMullen had some mental health issues that needed taken care of and Williams was falling so far down the depth chart he wasn't likely to see the field even if he stayed.
  18. I can legitimately give one scenerio to keep Riley. Instead of maybe only spending 3-4 million on a new coach while also paying Pelini and Riley, Doing a full reboot again, they do this. For 2018 Riley stays Cavanaugh and Langsdorf are fired They bring in a top tier OLine Coach and Pay up for an ELITE Offensive Coordinator on a 1 year deal. An OC who runs a more power run focused version of the WCO. You hire that elite OC with the understanding that if things go well they will be given the head job within 5 years. This gives Diaco a full year to let us see if his D will work, you give yourself a shot at an elite OC with a senior QB without a system change and if you strike gold GREAT. You have solidified your future on Offense and Defense and don't go full panic mode. If it fails then you fire Riley and reboot with more money (say $5-7M) to put towards a new coach (Pelini, Riley and Eichorsts contracts are 1 more year off the books) and an easier schedule in 2019 for that first year transition. Basically I'd rather risk 2018 being a complete throwaway year in hopes of getting lucky than to trust our Adminiatration not to just make another on the cheap midlevel hire simply because we're paying Millions of dollars for a bunch of people not to work at Nebraska anymore. It sounds insane after watching what happened tonight, but honestly I Still would trust Riley's ability to hire an elite OC and OL Coach for next year more than I trust our Admin's abilty to hire a new Head Coach that is what we want them to be. As long as those coaches have no affiliation with Oregon State.
  19. You don't call that play to that back in that game. Not when you just need to get the crowd to explode and your QB a ton of cofidence first. Maybe in the 3rd q quarter if things have gone well, bit there? Not a chance. This staff has no concept of risk/reward and how to manage a playsheet.
  20. You serious? This is NOT a Defense problem. We were in this game in the 4th quarter DESPITE an offense that scored 10 whole points and gave 7 back. Wisconsin's offense ran 6 more plays than our offense did. 6 MORE PLAYS... but they had over 13 more minutes of time of possession. That TOP isn't all on our D. Our D is undersized and was worn down and the Offense gave them almost zero help and once again put them in an instant hole to start the game.
  21. How about the Hire the best, most qualified candidate for the job and if they have Husker ties it's just a bonus camp?
  22. 2 years as Athetic Director at a D2 school in the MIAA Conference. 6 years as Athletic Director of a non P5 D1 school in the Summitt League. Overseeing an athletic department without a football program. 3 years as vice chancellor of athletics for a non P5 D1 school in the Summitt League. That is Trev Alberts' entire relevant resume. That resume on it's merits alone is a resume for a candidate for a sunbelt or conference USA job... NOT a Big Ten Job and certainly not a job at a place like Nebraska. I like Trev but if he doesn't play here anyone bringing his name up as a serious candidate for this job would be laughed out of the room. Whoever the AD is at Creighton or South Dakota, or even Witchita State is likely far more qualified than Trev Alberts and if for some reason any of them got the job people would riot becaise they were underqualified. Look at that resume again, do you honestly think OSU or Michigan or Penn State hires anyone with that resume? Of course not..so why the hell should Nebraska? Because he played football here 20+ years ago?
