  1. It seems as if I’m no longer welcome, so Imma head out for good this time. I love you all, except the 4 of you (you know who you are).

  4. I can't believe some of us thought we may be better than Wisconsin coming into the year.... Wisky is rolling .

This game was more about Michigan being overrated than Wisky being invulnerable.

When you have a bad QB that throws into double/triple coverage routinely and fails to check down receivers, of course you’re going to make a competent D looks impressive.

  9. Time for the real predictions. How many Husker fans get in?

@JJ Huskerat least 60% of that crowd. Better hope the Nebraska fans driving back have good driving habits.

  10. Wisconsin looked good but with Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State on the schedule it's still an uphill climb to win the West.

  11. The announcers doing the UCLA/Cincy game are an affront to humanity and almost as bad as a HuskerMax ad with the volume on.

  15. Coach Osborne dropped an interesting conference expansion nugget at this morning's Big Red Today when asked about Nebraska's shuffle from the Big 12 to the Big 10.

I'm pretty sure this was heavily rumored, and maybe it's common knowledge now, but he said the Big 12 South had "agreed in principle" to move to the Pac 12, and that this was one of the biggest reasons we had shopped around for a different conference.

@Redux I agree, a Pac-10 invite wouldn't have been appealing, but it still would have been better than our current situation in the Big XII (though not by much). And don't forget matches with UCLA, or Oregon, or Washington (all teams that were certainly competent at the time).

And I bet it would have been hard to turn a SEC invite down...if we had someone other than Dr. Tom at the helm. IMO, folks like Dr. Tom are quick to remember that Nebraska is more than football, and I don't think he cares for the dirty pool the SEC willingly plays in.

Now, if it's an Eichorst, or maybe even a Moos making the decision back then, I'd agree. But not with Dr. Tom at the helm.

@Redux IMO, I don't believe so--one thing that was appealing about the B1G and that we pride ourselves on is that DoNU is pretty good, academically, and we have been looking for some time to improve on that. :cowbell:

We've improved our academics in spades with the B1G, and it's gotten the notice of schools like Oklahoma that are in a similar situation. Unless Oklahoma has a course change in their future goals re: academics, academic improvement via the B1G is why Oklahoma to the B1G down the road will have a very strong likelihood (even though their idiot fans want the SEC ).

Joining the SEC would have had an adverse effect on our academics--we wouldn't have partnerships with the few Big XII schools that did happen to remember they were a school first, and the SEC doesn't have any sort of academic consortium (or any sort of inter-conference academic programs of note). At best, our academics in the SEC would be moribund.

Now, IIRC, the Pac-12 (and the Pac-10) did have something similar, but not as encompassing, as the B1G's academic consortium. So to respond to your question, perhaps we could have been moving buddies with Colorado to the Pac-12 instead? :dunno

@knapplcThat's correct. What I'm saying is that there's another move in here that is important to discuss.

Timeline (though it's nebulous--a lot of this was happening at the same time/overlaps other events)

      • Texass gets Longwhorn Network, scuttles possibility of Big XII network with ESPN or Fox because of this.
      • Group of five (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, A&M, Missouri) start talking with B1G about moving to their conference
      • A&M scuttles group of five B1G deal because they're myopic, greedy f***s. B1G has already done homework on all schools involved.
      • Texas starts dalliance with Pac-12 after catching wind of possible B1G move falling through, wants to bring at least four Big XII South schools over (and Colorado IIRC).
      • Pac-12 have a handshake agreement with Vermin, but there are numerous issues: a "Tech Problem" (as it was described by Ohio State in how Texass would sell the dregs of the Big XII to the then Pac-10), Texass didn't want to give up Longwhorn Network, and other schools balk at handing over third tier television rights (something that still haunts the Pac-12 Network--everyone has their own third tier channel/rights, which is a clusterf***).
      • Missouri starts cozying up with the B1G, Colorado starts flirting with the Pac-10 while Texas does their dance with the Pac-10.
      • Nebraska reaches out to B1G, B1G realizes this is a better deal, chooses Nebraska.
      • A&M strikes out on their own, solicits SEC. Finds willing moving buddy Missouri on their doorstep freshly dumped by the B1G.
      • Colorado goes to the Pac-12.
      • Oklahoma's AD publicly announces they're hitching their schooner to Bevo (a move that AD later admits was folly)
      • Texass stays, is large fish in a smaller, algae-infested pond.

Nebraska's dalliance with the B1G predates all of this, though--Nebraska was part of a five team group (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, A&M, and Missouri) that was privately talking with the B1G about moving over after Texass went and got their Longwhorn Network started.

We know this because it was confirmed by a current Big XII AD (read: either Oklahoma or Kansas) to the Omaha paper. It's what put us on the map with the B1G when A&M f****d up that deal by being greedy f***s.
