  1. So because school has always been boring, we can't try to do anything to make it more enjoyable. The things you remember most from school are things that you were interested and engaged in. You can do enough to pass a test, but how long does that information stick with you if you aren't engaged? How much do you still remember from your high school classes? The stuff I still remember are things I found interesting or were presented in an interesting way. I got As and Bs in school, but I couldn't pass many of those tests if I took them again today. Why not try to make things more interesting so they can do more than just pass a test? I have 18 month old twins, so I can't ask them to do much, but we have gotten them to do some things by turning them into games. They pick up their own toys, put their shoes away, put their clothes in the hamper, and throw their own trash away by making them fun. We have started to notice that they sometimes start picking up their things before bedtime without having to tell them. There are times they don't want to do it, but they do face some kind of puinishment if they don't do what we tell them. So what's wrong with telling them that something is a "magical golden nugget" if it gets them to do it? The difficult thing is finding what that golden nugget is as kids get older. They become less interested in the basic games you tried to play with them when they were younger. I think it's pretty lazy on the teacher's part to do it their own way and expect students to pick up on it. I hate to break it to you...its not about the things you remember in most of your classes...its about learning to learn. Its about learning to study and prepare. About learning to achieve...its not about remember anything about cytoplasm because you may never use that info again in your field.

I think it's pretty lazy on the teacher's part to do it their own way and expect students to pick up on it. There is nothing wrong with using your system...but like your said your kids are young. I know you think its lazy...I got that part. That is the problem. I have had parents who had kids that got caught cheating ask me, no joke now..."Did you tell them that they couldn't cheat?" Trying to make everything fun/games and super interesting is very nice in theory...it is not practical and you know that.
  3. This guy seems to get it! One thing...most teachers won't bitch to parents about school stuff...even if they are "friends" in the end...mama and papa bear care a lot more about their kids than their kids teachers! haha... I have parents "hit me up" for info and drama all the time. We have iPads in school and I love them..cell phones, that is different.
  4. Oh my god... If you have kids at home...and you tell them to clean their freaking room...do you make it a "fun game" for them? Do you tell them that each article of clothing is a piece of of a magic potion, do you tell them that each plate and cup they bring down to the kitchen is really a magical golden nugget? When you make your kid mow the lawn...do you first convince them that each blade of grass is really en evil being from Lord of the Rings and that they are destroying the bad guys? Parents says it...kid does it Teacher says it...student does it Coach says it...player does it Its not "kids these days" it never has been, it never will be. It is "parents these days" and it always has been and it always will be. When I was in school, not that long ago, and I went home and told my mom or dad "Uggg, its boring, that class is boring" they said "So what, learn it, get a decent grade and move on, not everything in life is going to be super exciting, its your job to do well in class"
  5. This is great! If it is real...Husker fans are the "best"...if it is a troll, Husker fans are the best!

It seems like they are really trying to make it "Hostel" like, lets see how much torture we can show just for the sake of showing it.

I just hope I make it to kickoff without passing out.

  9. Tommy's struggle with the deep ball are due to lack of chemistry and timing with his receivers. Taylors was simply cuz he wasnt very good at throwing the ball. Tommy is no less effective at it now than Taylor was as a senior. Tommy has LOTS of room to grow. At least Tommy appears to have a natural skill, as well as a desire to push the ball down the field. Does he and/or Beck get a little carried away with it? Sure. So far. But just that threat is going to come in handy. We just didnt have much of a deep thread with Martinez for whatever reason. Maybe he was reluctant. Maybe it was line play and not enough time. Who knows. But it wasnt there. But it's there now. Tommy has dropped in some pretty nice 30+ yard passes as well already this year that I just dont think Martinez was capable of. And it just stems back to Tommy being an actual quarterback. And sophmore passing Tommy compared to sophmore passing Taylor? I think Tommy is much farther along. My guess...he has already thrown over 1000 passes to each of his WR's, if not more...I can't imagine that he needs more chemistry and timing. I think he is what he is, pretty good but probably around 55%
  10. I think the "he throws a great deep ball" is a bit of a myth, I think he throws a nice looking deep ball but its no more on target that T-mart. T-mart was short...TA is long. But T-Mart completed 65% of his passes.

  12. Is that two games in a row without and NU fumble??

    1. Mavric

      Mavric

Lost fumble, at least. But I'll take it.

  13. This was just one of those stupid games...I think NU kept waiting for a big play and it didn't happen. Well, except for that Int return for a TD that changed the entire game. That game is over, right then and there if they go up 21-7. They are not as good as we thought after game one They are not as bad as we thought after game two The thing that probably is most worrisome is the D-Line seemed pretty sad.
  14. Armstrong: Not fast, check. Bad at passing, check.

  20. Okay, so we decided to jump into Lot 7 this year, I had heard good things but I was still skeptical. We take two cars down, I am in the car that is parking by O Street, we park and start walking, the temptation of O street is almost more than I can handle, even at 10am. I walk and chat with my buddies and we stop at Embassy, just for a piss, not drinking, but let me tell you, I wanted to stay. We get closer and closer to Lot 7 and I am getting a good vibe. We have a reserved spot, that means it comes with power and a dish set up, of course, I am worried it won't work and we will not have TV. I walk over to the spot and BOOM, my other buddies already have my TV set up and working...this is already a hit. By this time we have all slammed a Buzzball and 1-2 beers, its 10:30. We bust out some bag-toss, we set up the rest of the stuff and start drinking. By 11:30 we are using our "shot"gun to do shots and people are watching and seem curious, during the course of the day about 10 people stop by to get a shot from the "shot"gun. An old "friend" stops by with one of her friends (both have great fake cans) so I quickly get the number of the new girl with fake cans and they leave...about an hour later I get a text from her "So and so says you are not dating material" which just means that things will go well with her, because of course her friend telling her that I am not a "settle down" guy will only help my chances. We watch the game at our spot, its a little annoying because of the TV delay compared to hearing things from the stadium but its still amazing, we are under the bridge, by 12;30 we are covered in shade and the temps are perfect. 100 wings are grilled up to perfection (follow NebraskaBBQ on Twitter, he is our cook) We bust out jello-shots and drink more. We pack up when the game ends and leave but we have to walk by O street...so of course we stop at 12th street pub (I think thats the name) we play darts and drink two PBR tall boys and now its time for home. One guy passes out in the car. We get back to my place and sit down, drinking more beer and watching some more games. During the tailgate 3 people "took a nap" in their chairs...they were worn out! One friend tried to "deflect" a pass and fell on the ground, almost into a grill and under a truck. Both knees and elbows were cutup.
  21. I don't think Watson is a 30 minute a game guy as a freshmen.
  22. Well, I ended up betting the LSU at -3...so I did win it but I pushed it here 2-0-1
  23. Foreman speaks of it like Peter does. (Annoying) Wistrom hardly talks about it at all Fiala does ALL THE TIME (Annoying) Mike Brown is more of a tweener but probably closer to Peter Benning is more of realist when it comes to his projections of players, I think.
