When the first two RBs get injured, and they always do, the third stringer come in and puts up the same numbers. Seems like the offensive line and scheme has something to do with it.

In-season acquisition McCaffery was preceded by leading rushers: 

 

Carlos Hyde (2017) 

Matt Breida (2018) 

Raheem Mostert (2019) 

Jeff Wilson (2020)

Elijah Mitchell (2021) 

 

McCaffery's three back-ups in 2022 (two of them undrafted free agents, the other a sixth rounder) had more collective yards than McCaffery and each had a better ypc. Thrilled to have McCaffery, who is genuinely special, but clearly the system is designed for RB success.
