HANC Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 Okay, this isn't really a "prediction" topic, because those have been exhausted since January 2nd.....but, instead, my question is....... What will it take for Husker Nation to be 'satisfied" with the progress of the program.... will it take a Big 12 title and BCS bid for people too consider 07 a success, or will something less be viewed as "progress"... Personally, I hope people don't look at the seaon-end "record" to evaluate BC and the team..... this year's schedule is killer.....now, if they win the North, Big 12, and or a BCS bid, it will be a great/fanatastic year, and I would say that this program is way ahead of the projections. Being a realist, this team could "easily" lose to USC, Texas, Mizzou, and maybe another 1-2 that will be tight games ( at WF or at KU) the schedule does them NO FAVORS !!!! I hope people look beyond the record and see that BC is bringing in great athletes and once he can build depth with great athletes, we will be on a roll......right now, we may have a few 4-5 * guys, but not any depth of "tremendous athletes" (ie USC, TX, FLORIDA)......... yes, it used to be "not rebuild, but reload"......until BC has a number of years to put recruiting classes together, we can't "reload"..... zoogs Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 In my mind, it won't be necessarily winning the "big" games - you have to admit they're pretty big games for us - but more not dropping small games. No more meltdowns a la OK State and Kansas. Those were embarrassing. The regular season should be a 2 loss season, and if we lose to anyone aside from USC and UT it'll be disappointing. Disappointing, but acceptable unless it's a blowout loss. I'll call a 3 loss season with now blowout losses, but I'm hoping for better. If we're really stepping up, we won't lose to the likes of Wake or Mizzou. With regard to "reloading", we do keep the nucleus of our team and we're basically reloading at Quarterback, and arguably at least half the D-line. Turner and Suh are monsters; Potter showed promise earlier in his career and you have to think one with Potter, Steinkuhler, Allen and incoming guys at DT we should not fair too badly, as long as Turner and Suh live up to their expectations. It'd be surprising from them not to. RB is another concern, but we do have a 5* there, if that can be termed "reloading". Quote Link to comment

We could definately do that and end up having something like 4 losses or something. I would like nothing more than Win the Big XII and win our bowl game that would be awesome, but I think for this year to be better than last year a Big XII Championship is a must. I think in the minds of most NU fans, the Big 12 is the goal. Winning the north was another step last year, and this year we need to take one more step. National title? No. But a conference title would put us back in the BCS and put us in even better position for last year. Yea, our schedule is brutal. But win the games you should (Mizzou, Okie St, aTm) and win the conference, and I think everyone will be happy. Quote Link to comment

It will be interesting to see how we compete... -To play devils advocate here, BC has had a number of years. Four, to be exact. How many does he need? Six? Ten? No other university around gives someone that much leeway. If these athletes are so big name, with his system I think the reload /turnaround should be happening this year. As for progress, I expect no more then two losses. The time has come for this program to have a win that no critic can rebuke or overlook. In my opinion, Wake Forest and Mizzou are not those victories either. Everyone will say how much WF will have fallen from last year and Mizzou will never be a landmark victory. You say the schedule does Nebraska no favors, I say it does them nothing but favors. Every week where there are those games that are not pushovers, there is a great chance for this coach, and this team to prove themselves. Its high time they took advantage of that. ttheKid1*18 Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 For this season to be a success, there can't be blowouts against the Big Red at all. No games where the D falls apart (OSU last year). We must be in every game. I think like someone said, we need to win either against SC, UT, or the Big XII title game to be a success, however if we beat UT or SC, and then somehow don't make the Big XII title game, that would be a huge letdown. We must win the North this year for it to be good. I might have my expectations too high, but even though this schedule is tough this season, I see us doing very well. We are under the radar in a lot of the media's minds. Could that be used as motivation? Absolutely. We are out for revenge with OSU, and we need to show that the KU loss two years ago in their house won't happen again. I think this team has a lot to prove, and I think they will do just that. He had no time to recruit and was cursed with the worst QB Nebraska has ever had. No talent to run any offense. He was faced with a mutiny on the defensive side. This man has done so much more than any other college coach it is unbelieveable. He still does not have the talent/depth on board to compete with SC or Texas, how can you demand a CC. We may get it, but if we win the games we should, all but SC and Texas and the South champion I will be very happy with the improvement. We drop games to Ok State like last year, I will have problem. 11-3 is a great season, 10-4 is bareable, but I think we do better. Quote Link to comment

Fair point, in my opinion he wasn't without fault on a few games, but learning is learning This man has done so much more than any other college coach it is unbelieveable. Ease off on the myopia. That is just a false statment He still does not have the talent/depth on board to compete with SC or Texas, how can you demand a CC. I thought he was a great recruiter. Funny how Callahan is a great recruiter except when he has to beat good teams, then there is no way anyone could possibly keep up, even though UCLA, OSU, A&M, and K-state all had no problems beating those two teams. We may get it, but if we win the games we should, all but SC and Texas and the South champion I will be very happy with the improvement. I for one am tired of winning all the games "we" should. There was a time when Nebraska did not have a game on the schedule that was was widely considered a loss. Everyone wants a high goal, there's one. Stop giving this team breaks.
