Apathy
Does everybody know that not just the head coach can recruit players!!!! Bill Callahan wasn't the guy to find Zac Taylor and sure as hell wasn't the guy to just recently to pick up Simi Kuli. Bo Pelini will hire guys like Mike Stoops and others to fill in the gaps just for the Bo haters out there. I'm just saying that other coaches such as the DC, Quarterback coach, Running Back coach, Offensive Line coach, etc... can recruit players. Just a friendly reminder. GO BIG RED and keep up the faith!!!! Quote Link to comment
Spiderman
I've seen comments from people saying he can't recruit...but I have yet to see any evidence of it. Fact is, he seems to relate to young men very well, as his teams would do anything for him. That would be a major part of recruiting. Quote Link to comment

huskerintheblood
Do you really need to recruit the "top" players ? Or could he just recruit kids in the lower ranks and "coach them up?" If the kid will do anything for you then you got half the problem licked. What was TO's avg. recruiting class 17 18 20 in the country? Look at some of the total wash outs that have fluncked in the college ranks. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
I agree that the coaching staff as a whole is where the recruiting gets done not just the head coach. Besides he seems to get guys fired up and that's half the battle right there. Quote Link to comment
Dan_F_30
Ya, lets beat this horse some more and maybe....MAYBE TO will use our opinions (which are only based on what we hear on message boards and "sources")in his search to hire a new coach. Quote Link to comment
DJR313
The concern with Pelini, for most, is not his inability to recruit, but his ability to be an incredible a-hole. Quote Link to comment

Look at some of the total wash outs that have fluncked in the college ranks. While this is true that a lot of highly rated kids have flopped but for every five star recruit that doesnt live up to his billing as a blue chipper, there are probably 50 two or three star kids who live up to there billing as being role players, and you will have more three star kids who dont play at all than five star kids who play like three star kids. So you cant go out and say I am going to recruit only three star kids cause I think I can get them to play hard, cause sometimes playing hard doesnt quite cut it. I mean look at USC, they are have a top recruiting class every year and every year they have a great team, I have not heard anyone say how they overrate USC's players. The question is do we want to be Kansas, Oregon, Boise State, or UConn who happened to find a few diamonds in the rough and have one good year every decade, or do we want to be USC, Texas, Oklahoma, or LSU and play for NC every year. Now we arent going to have recruiting classes like USC and Texas because we dont have that kinda talent in our backyard, but you have to go after the best talent you can get. We need to go after kids who fit our system and we need to go after the most talented kids that we think will play hard for us. Now about Pelini's recruiting habits, how often does Bill Callahan go on in-home visits, I am pretty sure that most of the time that is the job of the assistants. So we need Pelini to bring in guys who will go out and bring these kids back to Pelini and Pelini will inspire these kids to play for him. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
I remember when Pelini was here he recruited Danny Muy and other members of the Tallahassee Five. Three others were going to follow Muy to Nebraska if Pelini stayed. Muy left the team for family reasons to attend to his sick mother but I believe there was more to it. Quote Link to comment
Washusker
As BC has made painfully clear, it's not the stars, but the coaching that really matters. And is there any question as to whether Pelini can coach? Quote Link to comment

He tried to Bill Snyder after they stomped us at home in 03. I've heard other stories, not sure if they are fact or fiction though Quote Link to comment
