You just proved my point. There are rivalry games all over the country that nobody cares about except the 2 teams playing. You act like everyone should be so sad that those games aren't gonna be played any longer. Newsflash, those teams will find other teams to play and in 50 years they will be the nice little rivalry games. There are only a handful, maybe more than a handful, of really meaningful rivalry games in college football. NU vs OU was one of those and look, even that game is gone and nobody outside of Nebraska and Oklahoma really even cares. College football still lives on and will be ok.

 

I just get tired of fans coming onto this board wanting sympathy for their teams situation or for NU fans to agree with their point of view. It really gets old.

First the B10 made the right choice in Nebraksa by a long shot, but what if B10 had gone with Missouri and said they are sticking with 12 teams. Where does Nebraska land if OU, OSU, UT, TT head to PAC 12 and AM to SEC? I don't see SEC going after Nebraska b/c geography. That would leave the Big East as the likely home assuming B10 stayed at 12.

Why does everyone think KU is a weak college? Football, yes. Basketball, no. KU would put the Big 10 up in ranks with other conferences with their basketball program.

 

And we all know we would rather have KU then KSU.

 

Because FOOTBALL drives the money, basketball is very small potatoes compared to football in generating revenue. Make no mistake about it, conference expansion is driven by three things MONEY, MONEY & MONEY. That is why you don't hear much about KU. In fact you actually pointed out why KU is being left out of the talks. "Why does everyone think KU is a weak college? Football, yes." That my friend says it all right there.

 

Wrong. This round of expansion is driven by media markets, potential ad revenue, and brand cache. Those are things Kansas football can't deliver...but Kansas basketball certainly can. If it were about money, money, money, then people would be falling over each other to woo Texas, and they aren't.

 

Frankly, Kansas is one of the top two basketball programs in the nation--it would be hard for the BTN to ignore the ratings windfall from December through March the BTN would receive with Kansas in the lineup...not to mention a possible renegotiation with CBS and ESPN (who hold our Big 10 basketball conference rights). Kansas, like Nebraska, is a national brand--this is what places the BTN on the basic tiers of cable providers outside of the BTN local footprint, which in turn gets more people watching, which in turn allows the BTN to raise ad rates (which have no ceiling).

 

Plus, Kansas is an AAU member, while Oklahoma is not. Still matters to the Big 10, though not as much as we first thought (with the recent revelations that Michigan and Wisconsin voted to kick us out).

 

But if Kansas comes in, it won't be on their own--they don't have a (significant) new media market they'd bring to the BTN footprint (save for KC, which by itself is very 'meh'). Kansas would likely be paired with another school that draws from large market areas--say, a Rutgers or a Maryland, or another national draw (read: 'Domers) to expand the local footprint and expand national adoption of the BTN at the television provider level.

If the big 10 didn't tale us, the pac12 would. I am sure they would rather have us then TT. But would we follow Texas there? That is the question. We're not attached to their nipple like OU is.

Let's not forget that TCU was supposed to be in the Big XII originally, but the then-governor of Texas was a Baylor alum and refused to sign off on the deal unless Baylor got TCU's place at the table. In short, the teetotalers at Baylor have been breaking the Eighth Commandment ever since 1996.

 

Then again, their players like to break the Sixth Commandment, which I suppose makes the Eighth Commandment small potatoes...so I guess there's that...
