ohiocornhusker
Why hasn't Rex's name been bantered about for the Heisman? In my not so unbiased opinion he is one of the best if not the best running backs in the nation. Mark Ingram, Reggie Bush, Ricky Williams they were all RB. Now the only names I hear talked about are QB. Quote Link to comment
dutch91701
Next year he should be in it. Luck, Wilson, and Generic Boise QB #3 will all be gone and he has made a name for himself this year. He should start out next year in the running and hopefully perform all season and bring it home. Quote Link to comment
krc1995
I don't think he has the numbers. He seems to be the face of Nebraska, but toughness doesn't really register with the voters outside of the area. Quote Link to comment

Our O-Line will be more experienced next year too, giving Rex an even better opportunity to rack up the stats and get a shot at the Heisman. Quote Link to comment

Cornicator
The lack of Heisman talk doesn't bother me, but if Nebraska ends up 11-1 and wins the Big 10, he should most certainly be deserving of a All-American accolades. I think 1300+ yards and 20+ touchdowns will get him on that list. Quote Link to comment
huskerpilot
Because even though he carried our team, he doesn't have spectacular, jaw-dropping numbers...not yet anyway. Quote Link to comment
PaulCrewe
Why hasn't Rex's name been bantered about for the Heisman? Because everyone knows the white runningback is just a myth and doesn't really exist. 1 Quote Link to comment
Husker from Kansas
because he has to share the spot like with tmart and others, and that hurts him, when ingram won it they had a good qb and pretty good wr but everyone was talking bout ingram, that wont happen with rex, because everyone will be talking about rex, tmart, turner, and the 3 dynamo rbs behind him on the depth chart Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
I think he's the most underrated RB in the country. Most people hadn't really heard of him until this year. With the B1G getting more television time now people are starting to hear about him. If he comes back next season I expect him to be one of the nations top talked about running backs. HuskerShark
He's just not flashy enough to win the heisman. This year, it looks like Trent Richardson along with the QBs. I think that Rex has a shot at entering the heisman race next year, but to win it, it takes one or two 200 yd games. I love the consistency that Rex brings to the team, and I wouldn't trade him for any other RB in the nation, I just don't see him getting super serious consideration for the heisman. Enhance
In order to win the Heisman as running back, I think you need to definitely fall in the 1600+ yards range, have 20+ touchdowns, play on a championship caliber team, have pre-season hype and make big plays in big games. Burkhead could get in the 1600 yard park, could have around 20 touchdowns (probably more at this pace), but didn't have the pre-season hype nor has he made many plays yet that I would characterize as traditional Heisman-esque plays. Burkhead is a tough, grind it out back. He doesn't have great speed or power, but he has a really good combination of both. As another poster mentioned, he's just not that flashy of a player either. And as recent history suggests, if you're not playing for a MNC, your chances are slim. I think he has potential next year, though. Quote Link to comment
bigg10
To put it simple, he is a star in Nebraska. Thats it, thats all. I see where espn B10 bloggers give him Mr Oct, which is nice and all, but Coker was reconized nationally, BIG difference. Thats what it takes to win a heisman. I am not saying Coker ever will, but he does have 2 more years after this one to punish the B10. http://www.bigten.org/blog/2011/10/two-big-ten-players-earn-college-football-performance-awards.html Quote Link to comment
Doctor Tom
Rex Burkhead Trent Richardson Sure, he should be in the discussion, but his numbers still don't stack up with the other RB contender. 1 Quote Link to comment
