Does it bother anyone else when Rex returns punts?

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the board.

What kind of chances are you talking about? You'll notice that Rex generally comes in to return punts when they need a tenured guy back there to just call a fair catch. Burkhead isn't a great return guy because he doesn't have great speed like Abdullah does, but he has a lot composure and he's a good safety net if you need a reliable player back there to just call a fair catch. That reliability isn't there with those other guys.

In essence, they're taking less of a chance having Burkhead back there.

Abdullah muffed one or two punts against MSU. The division/season was on the line and apparently Rex is the only guy who coaches trust to make safe decisions and take care of the ball in punt returns. Other guys drop the ball, aren't vocal enough when they need to get their blockers away from a short punt, or don't know when to call a fair catch and when to let the ball go...

I think the coaches want Abdullah back there, but he made too many mistakes against MSU.

Rex Burkhead=fair catch specialist. Get possession of the ball with out giving up 10-40 yards of field position by letting it bounce. After 4 years of Nile Paul and his antics and now Abdullah showing some disturbing tendancies it wouldnt bother me if this became the norm.

Correct.........................And, he is no Santino Pacino (or however we spelled the statue that Billy C put back there..............)
