Ed Helms
Not sure if anyone saw this article on 247Sports from Steve Helwagen, an Ohio St. contributor for 247. It basically talks about how Ohio St and Michigan have dominated the Big Ten in recruiting in recent years, which from a Nebraska perspective is BS. We may have not had as high-rated classes as O$U and Mythigan, but they aren't dominating us. Penn St is recruiting well despite the sanctions, Northwestern is doing a good job this year, and oh yeah who's won the last 3 Big Ten championships? Wisconsin. Not O$U or Mythigan. The worst part of the article is when he starts talking about facilities in the Big Ten being part of the problem for recruiting: At the Big Ten media days, a former conference head coach was outspoken about where he sees the conference falling behind. “You just have to look at the facilities,” this former coach said. “Every SEC school has a palace where they practice and train. Ohio State and Michigan each have nice facilities. Northwestern and Minnesota are building some facilities. “But the rest of them pretty much range from barely passable to outdated to just an out and out joke. You have to invest and re-invest to continue to be successful. These kids take visits to all of these schools. It’s only natural for them to look (outside the region) if there are better facilities there.” When I saw the bolded part, I knew this article was sh*t. Not sure who the former head coach is, but he is an idiot. Might want to do your own research after a guy spits out drivel like that. We'll see soon enough if O$U and Myhtigan's highly-rated recruiting classes turn into championships. Link: B1G Recruiting: Big Two, Little 12? Quote Link to comment
Mavric
According to star rankings, that's probably accurate. But we're 1-1 against them on the field so far so we'll see how it translates. Quote Link to comment
WoodyHayes1951
first off, recruiting isn't everything.....I'd rather be Wisconsin over the past 20 years than Notre Dame. If Wisconsin was within 10 spots of recruiting to ND in any of the previous 20 years then I'd be shocked. second, i don't see too much wrong with what said? has anyone else cracked the top 10 in recruiting on any site in the past 3 classes? Once against doesn't mean everything but when all these Midwest kids leave for the south when spots are available in the Big Ten then something is wrong. third, the former coach is DiNardo. He is a dope. I think PSU, Nebraska and MSU have top notch facilities which are better than Ole Miss and Kentucky(who are out recruiting them). although PSU had a top-15 class before the sanctions hit and still got a 5 star QB and TE. I agree, there is a difference on whether you agree with the opinion based reporting of the story, but if it was based solely on class rankings, I don't think its a stretch to say Michigan and OSU have done better, but its just recruiting. Also, when you see a story on 247 that is written by a homer, you are going to get a homer view. I like Steve Helwagen, but its no mystery that he is an OSU homer (don't think he's trying too hard not to be), so you probably are not going to see him take an objective viewpoint. NUance
Rivals recruiting class rankings. (For what it's worth) year tOSU / UM / NU 2013__#2 / #5 / #17 2012__#4 / #7 / #26 2011__#11/ #21 / #15 Dominated in '12 and '13. Not so much in '11. Facilities? It's more about population base than facilities. I think our facilities match up quite nicely. edit: Not so much in '11 (not '10). Quote Link to comment

In all fairness, I believe the facilities thing was from an ex-coach and not Steve Helwagen, but I don't think I have ever heard there is a big difference b/t the big four's facilities (in fact, I have heard they are all equally ridiculous). Ratt Mhule
Ill take being ranked in the low 20s in recruiting everyday if that means we have the top rated offense in the B1G year in and year out. Our defense is just around the corner, I think. Quote Link to comment
Coqui
It's an article about recruiting. He's right. However also in the article “When we were at Northern Illinois, I think we were dead last in recruiting classes in the MAC three years in a row … and that is the team that just went to the Orange Bowl,” Kill said with a chuckle. The recruiting class doesn't always translate to success. Coaching is a big part of it. Quote Link to comment
JJ Husker
Barely passable to outdated facilities? Has this guy been to UNL? If we're second rate to anybody, there must be some super ridiculous facilities out there that I am not aware of. Lacking facilities are not a problem for the Huskers. Quote Link to comment
It'sNotAFakeID
Well, we can be second rate to Oregon, I'd be okay with that Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
I would agree with the previous posts regarding recruiting. Those 2 have done quite well the last couple of years and continue for 2014. It hasn't translated to winning any divisional or conference championships, though so who knows what it really means. I guess for any people that don't think Bo is a good coach, it shows he can evaluate and develop talent just fine. This anonymous ex head coach has clearly never stepped foot in Lincoln so whatever. I didn't realize how uninformed the other B1G schools are about Nebraska and their history until reading those comments from OSU, UM and even an Alabama fan. My favorite was an OSU fan laughing at one of the comments saying our basketball facilities are one of the best in the nation, then after a NU fan posted the Hendricks complex and Pinnacle bank arena videos, he didn't even respond.
