Coaches & Media Criticism

I think if the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star shut down tomorrow, Bo Pelini's "process" would still be flawed and a lot of the fundamental problems with the football team would remain.

Here's the issue I have with the media, whether local or national. It's the influence of repetition. Eichorst said what his policy was about speaking to Pelini's future.....so what do we get from the media? We get columns and polls about Pelini's future.....every day. It gets people to watch and read.....ratings and revenue, yet it's founded on nothing official. We hear things like "surely Eichorst is going to.......". There was some website about coaches on the hot seat where Pelini was the only coach with a winning record. Then, included in Eichorst's communication are these two words...."unfounded speculation".

Why is it that people are freaking out that Bo and other coaches answer to the media's criticism? I think Bo made a wonderful point in his presser yesterday. The sh#t reporters and even posters on here start is just ridiculous and, whether you want to ignore it or not, hurt the program. Why are Bo and his staff not allowed to answer to comments that are breaking down the team they've spent all year building? I just don't understand the rationale at all and I'd like some of you (there's plenty of you here, believe me) to explain it to me.

Haven't you heard, when he agreed to 3mill a year he gave up all his rights in defending himself. he's only gets to roll over and take it.

Too many people can vent their rage on social media without ever being held accountable. Many get vicious and its usually not warranted unless you are talking about rapists, child molesters, murderers, Liberals, socialists, progressives and communists.

I think the major problem here is that the coaches take it personally and the players see it or perceive it. Probably, the biggest impact is on the perspective recruits, their high school coaches and their parents.

I just think he makes it into a bigger deal than it isand it kind of goes against his old "we need to worry about us" mantra

I believe the fans have allot to do with making bigger than it should be. to many get butt-hurt over stupid sh#t.

Most fans aren't used to have the coach of the team they love telling them to f*ck off and to go f*ck themselves

Coaches take it personally because it is ruining their livelihood! Especially so here at Nebraska, what boosters and those with money outside the program (any fan buying a ticket) think have a large influence on Bo's and all the coaches' jobs. Makes the current players wary of what's going to happen. Makes recruits uncertain of wanting to come here. And it is all unfounded. And people only think this way because of what they're being told by OUR media. Our media who wants this team to do so well but is willing to rip on it for the sake of a story. Well, OWH, Journal Star, everyone else, you got your story. And it tore down this team. Now continue to bash on Bo while he attempts to clean up your mess. Which he will, by the way. Always does. But the fact that it has to happen is crap.

Very very low on my list of Pelini concerns.

Some are, some aren't. I don't know Bo personally, and I highly doubt he would say that to my face if I ever did meet him, so I don't really care. But like you said, there are definitely more pressing issues.

do you have normally worry about what other people "feel" or say about something to form an opinion?

I don't, and if the media local or nationally want to laugh or say he's a lunatic so be it, Bo is a real person and while not perfect it is nice to have someone who tells it like it is- did you buy into the hatchet job ABC did on TO back in 95 too?

People think for yourselves for a change

I like Bo but I have to agree I wish he could embrace the fan base more. I think he has been trying with all the videos they did this year but I wish he would be real with Husker fans and even his players for that matter. These players need to know that the 90+ thousand that show up to games aren't there to spite them. They are there because they support them! We all in this thing together, now let's go and get this thing figured out! A bowl win, I believe, would go a long way for the whole Husker nation.

Talk is cheap! I wouldn't expect Bo to think that way when the fans actions at the games and words on message boards, and media say otherwise!

A lot of you have good points but it seems to me that more than a few of you are still a little butt-hurt that Bo made that one statement about our "Fans" the fact that he was right doesn't seem to matter- if you leave before the game is complete you deserve to be called out, I think his comments were pretty mild

This sediment is hilarious hearing from a fan base that crucified Callahan for the throat slash and the "fing hillbilly" comment in Norman. Now Bo literally tells those same people to f*** off and it is ok. Oh the hypocrisy.

(This isn’t directed at the poster directly, just the fan base in general.)

So you're disrespecting the fans as well? Perhaps you and Pelini have more in common than you think.
