New ideas for Memorial Stadium game day experience

I'm pretty sure this has been posted here before, but this Tunnel Walk of Shame article talked about this same thing. "God's Gonna Cut You Down" would be awesome. We need better video/graphics. The tunnel walk videos are boring.

"God's Gonna Cut You Down" would be epic. That beginning with everyone coordinated clapping and stomping. Chills. Let's make this a reality.

if not that, at least the chant from 'the dark knight rises'.

That would be pretty freaking sweet!

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. What we really and truly need is to hire the absolute best crew to come in and redesign the game day experience. If I were in charge of this project, I'd go and hire the best crew that the WWE has and tell them to keep an element or two for the sake of tradition, but that otherwise they have carte blanche to make the gameday experience the best in the country. No one knows more about this than the wrestling folks, who coordinate music, video, pyrotechnics, etc. all the time. And the target demographic that we're trying to appeal to is the 17 year old four or five star recruit, not the 65 year old blue hair double-fisting Runzas. And no one knows how to appeal to that group of kids like the folks over at the WWE.

We could use the offseason to make our gameday experience the best in the country. And all it would take is a phone call.

I seem to remember a semi-pro league ran by the WWE that went bust. However, I must admit that it certainly was entertaining to watch. They had cheerleaders in hot tubs in the stands, the dance routines at half-time were almost x-rated, there were no kick-offs, instead it was something like a scramble for the football. Totally unconventional, but pure entertainment for the enjoyment of the fans.

That was the XFL. And we don't have to go that route. But I'm thinking we let them coordinate the gameday experience. As I'm envisioning it, that would involve the best sound system money can buy, cool music that appeals to young people, pyrotechnics, all kinds of visual effects, etc. Update the band as well. The "Pride of All Nebraska" needs a refresh. Like the rest of the gameday experience, the band routines seem tired, worn-out and more appropriate for 1983 than 2013. So let's look at and emulate what schools like Ohio State are doing with their bands. Then integrate that into the game day presentation.

But the point is that our target market is 17 year old predominately black kids that we're trying to recruit. It's not 60 year old white guys that think the "Tunnel Walk" is still the epitome of cool and that "The Wave" is the highlight of game time experiences.

I don't go to games any more. My family has good tickets and I get an invite once or twice a year to go. I simply have no desire to. The stadium sucks, the seating sucks, the gameday experience blows and it's not worth spending an entire day getting down there attending the game and then getting home. I'd rather watch the games from the comfort of my recliner than smashed into a tiny seat with some asshat with one of those seats with a back jammed into my kneecaps. And there are more and more like me who don't care about attending games. A big part of that is that the gameday experience just isn't that big of a deal. That needs to change.

The stadium sucks????? I understand everything else you are saying but what do you mean the stadium sucks? Not saying my opinion is better but I've been to every stadium in the big12 big 10, sec except for Vanderbilt,Kentucky, auburn, and the only one I thought was even close to as neat is Florida

I won't speak for him, and don't take this as my personal condemnation of Memorial because I love the place, but there's no secret that it's kind of a patch job. All different grandstands fit in together like weird jigsaw puzzle pieces, the endzone sections are humongous (I doubt anybody else has as many endzone seats as Nebraska does), really poor enter/exit gates and ramps in some places especially north stadium, poor layout of restrooms, horrible sound system, etc.
