Saunders
Only weird because we're making a big deal out of it. Which it isn't. Moving on. You don't think it's a little odd that Tom Shatel would so candidly respond, and then delete his tweet? People delete response tweets all the time. Really? Why? Quote Link to comment
QMany
Seems odd that both Bo and Shawn declined to comment while certain media members were building a story out of nothing. That seems normal to me. Quote Link to comment

Junior
Not that weird, except for the part with Shatel deleting tweets I suppose. Eichorst isn't giving interviews or Q&As on the topic, but that doesn't mean he's trying to keep the whole deal a secret. Seems like a solid way to treat something as banal as a 1-year extension, the kind Bo's been getting every year -- by not drawing attention to it and treating it as un-newsworthy business as usual from the Athletic Dept.'s perspective. Eichorst keeps trying to accomplish this - let things that aren't newsworthy not be newsworthy, and our obsessive fanbase just will. not. let. him. be. When he got introduced he said his job would be a success if nobody knew what his name was in 5 years. We're doing a good job making that impossible. Well we have to blame someone for the team's flaws. And we know it can't be Bo. Quote Link to comment

People will always be trying to find stories no matter what anyone says or doesn't say! But if he does start talking, the spotlight's on him, on Bo's job status, etc. Better to let people operate at their default levels of curiosity instead of jumping into the fray unless that kind of intervention is required, or it's something that's actually a big deal. Mavric
Brian Christopherson @HuskerExtraBC 1m Spokeswoman confirmed Bo Pelini does have an extension through Feb. 28, 2019. #Huskers Quote Link to comment
Ed Helms
He signed it two days ago, why would either Bo or Eichorst comment on it until Bo signed it? Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Zombie Devaney @ZombieDevaney 22m Was just told Pelini's extension is proof that Eichorst is ready to fire him. Good lord. Not even I could drink enough to justify that logic Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Haha! In seriousness, though, I suppose an extension never really precludes or even makes it too hard to fire a coach as long as the backing is there. But that backing probably needs to be there almost regardless. Weird relationship between athletic departments and boosters... Bo's in a boat no different than he was last season with the contract, it sounds like. So while this simmers down any potential "OMG Bo's on a short leash, they're letting him twist in the wind, recruits should go elsewhere" f'up, particularly from opposing coaches on the trail, it doesn't actually mean Bo is locked up and unfire-able. He'll still go through his annual review at the end of 2014. All in all, though, he should feel good about the ground he's on. Dude's right - lack of administrative backing is not going to be an issue. Quote Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
http://m.espn.go.com...toryId=10569588 Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has agreed to a one-year contract extension, keeping the deal at five years through the 2018 season, a school spokeswoman said Friday. According to Nebraska, the deal extends Pelini's contract through Feb. 28, 2019. Nebraska has not released information this year about Pelini's contract in response to requests from ESPN.com and other media outlets. Athletic director Shawn Eichorst has not commented on the matter. He declined again this week in a face-to-face inquiry from the Omaha World-Herald. Yay? Edited March 7, 2014 by Mavric Merged as it was being discussed here alread - I'll edit thread title as well Quote Link to comment
