Post Spring Position Ranking

Rate 1-5 on each position

QB- 3.5 Armstrong needs to grow and become more consistent but to be able to win us some games instead of just manage the game. I like our depth though.

RB- 4.5 We have an elite in Abdullah and we have great pieces behind him. Would have given us a 5, but it will depend on how we use Cross, Newby, and Taylor to compliment Ameer.

WR- 3.5 We have a solid corps. Bell and Turner have been injury prone and we dont have a serious wr that can just win one on one battles against a good db. Solid depth but we need Moore to step up and give us a little more explosiveness at the WR position.

OL- 3.5 I like Lewis and Sterup at Tackles and Cotton and Moudy, Kondolo, or Price at G. Center will be a question mark on if Pelini can handle a B1G slate or if Reeves can overtake that spot. Experience is why this group gets a 3.5. I think they have great talent but how will they respond when the bullets start flying. Should have good depth, but i thought that last year and look what happened.

TE-3 Carter is in position to make a big leap here, and we have some unproven younger guys like Cotton and Foster.

DT- 4.5 Love our depth and talent at DT. They are all young too. Hope Williams can add to the depth of VV, Collins, Curry, and Maurice.

DE- 4 Best in the B1G with RG44 and McMullen seems to be coming on. Depth holds back this group from being special. We will miss Moss this year, but he should be back next year. We need a Fresh to come in and be a situational pass rusher like Sedrick King. Hope Newby can make an impact here too.

LB-4 Good depth. I like ZA, Rose, and Bando starting here with solid time from Love and Santos. Nobody should be complacent bc nobody but ZA has a spot locked up. We need to get Rose off the field on 3rd downs and keep Bando and ZA in their so they can cover.

S- 4 Love our safeties and our depth their too. Leroy will be a star and Coop can tackle and cover. Great young depth pushing them.

CB- 3.5 I like Mitchell but we are unproven at our other spot. Rose has talent but i think Cockrell will take some snaps once he gets the system down. Charles Jackson could move out here when we are out of nickel.

QB - 2.5. Armstrong has to improve a ton over what we saw last year.

RB - 5. We have a top 5 RB in Ameer, with a solid group behind him.

WR - 4. Bell, Turner, Burtch, Westercamp. Improvements from Armstrong can bring this up to a 5

OL - 3. Some turnover, but we have some experience returning. Lewis is going to be a beast.

TE - 2. Simply because it's mostly an unknown, but TE has been a good area for us in the past few years.

Defense I pretty much agree with your assessment though.

Some very tough grades on this board. The only spots I would give less than a 3 to is the QB spot and TE. I would give QB a 2.5 and TE a 2.0. QB is because we need to see improvement in game management. TE because we underuse the TE at Nebraska. I always think the TE should catch 3-4 passes a game. The only spots above a 3 are RB and DL. I would give them both a 4. No such thing as a perfect score. Everyone can always improve.

I am not sold on the QB play and I think there will be people that hated on TM the last few years that will be quietly whispering "Uggg, TM would have made that play"

Then of course, there will be a play where TA gets hit and doesn't fumble and those same fans will be yelling "TM would have lost the ball"

So its all good! haha

Qb - 3. Assuming TA starts, he will demonstrate exactly what a sophomore QB should show. Learning on the job whilst making some mistakes but also making some plays. I expect a lot of good things from him, but there will be bumps in the road for sure.

RB - 4. Could be a five really. Double A and Cross make it a 5, with Newby and Taylor offsetting the score a bit. Wasn't too blown away by Newby last year, but he wasn't given a lot of chances. The spring game he sure looked like the ultimate athlete out there. Taylor is a thumper. If we open holes for any of these guys and can make one key block downfield, it could be housed every time.

FB- ? We have one? We don't use it.

TE- we have one? We don't use it. Cethan looks the part, but tough to say much really. We don't use TE's in our offense, at least not in any playmaking capacity.

OL- We have one? We don't use it........3. Lewis looks darn good. Sterup I'm also impressed with. It's guard and center that to me has not dominated the way it needs to in quite some time. Need more push up front. TA could make this group look better than they have looked in the past. TA has good pocket presence.

WR-3.5. Lots of unproven guys. We've seen what JT can do if he ever gets the damn ball. Butch is a stud and I like what I saw in the spring game from a few new faces.

DE- 3.5. Gregory clearly elite, need McMullen to step up....I think he will

DT-4. Valentine Curry Collins all could play for anywhere in the country IMO

LB-4 Speed and power, best depth at LBer Nebraska has seen in a long long time

CB-3. Unproven, but good...Rose I think has all the tools. I'm also a fan of Mitchell out there. Then CJ finally getting a chance to shine.

S-3.5. Alexander and Cooper, Gerry solid in the rotation.

QB - 3/5. Armstrong cannot have around a 50-55% completion rate/TD-INT ratio like last season if he wants to contend for a conf. championship appearance. Also has to improve on his decision making, play making ability, being a leader on offense. Depth includes fyfe and stanton

RB - 5/5. Ameer is the best RB the conference has to offer and is also a heisman candidate, so he's nationally elite. Terrell Newby is very explosive and can make defenders miss but he needs to improve on his vision, ball security and handling which is typical for a freshman, still a very good 2nd option behind ameer. Cross is very experienced and is tough to bring down. A talented Adam Taylor provides depth behind the 3.

OL - 3.5/5. Jake cotton is a senior and has been a very reliable OG. Hearing great things about OT alex lewis, the CO transfer, but he's unproved. Guys like Moudy, mark pelini, reeves, givens price, sterup could be possible starters. Ranking is a little low because of all the lineman that recently graduated.

WR - 4/5. Looked like a very solid group during the spring game. Bell and Turner are great playmakers. Nice depth behind them: Westerkamp, Brandon Reilly, Burtch, Taariq Allen, and an injured Alonzo Moore. Needs to improve on toughness and blocking now that Enunwa has graduated, also consistent catching. I think a lot of these guys are very reliable options. If Moore was playing in the spring game and showed improvement, I'd have given this corps 4.5 instead of 4.

TE - 2.5/5. Cethan Carter appears to be the starter but needs to improve on his game in every area, but he was only a freshman last year. S. Cotton, Foster provide some depth

ST - 2.5/5. Bondi is solid as the kick off specialist, but the place kicker job is wide open right now. Incoming freshman Drew Brown is one of the candidates for that job. Jamal Turner and Newby are really good punt returners.

DT - 4/5. Valentine is definitely a starter. Curry, Maurice, Collins are also great options who are all sophomores.

DE - 3.5/5. Randy comes into this season as a potential top draft pick. Loss of Moss will be huge and there's also a lack of depth. McMullen, Keels, Jack Gangwish, Collins, Natter (injured) are the other DEs. Marcus Newby can also be a pass-rush DE.Natter will help with the depth when he's not injured

LB - 4.5/5. Lots of players returning from last year. Lots of them were young freshman so I hope they make a good jump from there FR year to SO year. Banderas, Anderson, Santos, Mike Rose are all starter-material. Good depth behind them also

DB - 3/5. Safety position will look great if Cooper gets healthy. Lots of talent there. CBs is still questionable with Josh Mitchell the only returning starter from last year. Always hearing great things about Charles jackson at nickelback but still has yet to be proven even after the spring game. Some unproven depth at CB: Cockrell, Jonathan Rose, daniel davie, felici. Cockrell has more experience than the rest. Incoming FR that may crack the depth chart are Trai Mosley, 5'9ish but still athletic and Chris Jones, a long 6 foot corner
