Ameer for Heisman

lets slow down and let him get a few games under his belt........gotta love the kid, but its a long season.

you are talking about Kenny hill, right?

there is the normal handful of guys on the watch list, they all have to play well against top competition as the season goes on, to be serious Heisman contenders, Ameer is hopefully one of those guys.......one game is no measure of any of these guys....just sayin, but good to be excited.

yeah I was just jesting at the fact that espn has Kenny hill so high after one game. Literally one game. Ameer and the others have at least been good in past seasons too.

great point.........

I really like Gurly and think he is fantastic. But I cannot see him staying healthy all year. That will be his biggest roadblock. And if he misses a few games, it should allow Ameer to move ahead of him during the race as the nation's best back. Kenny Hill is FR in the SEC, so who knows how that will play out. Mariotta and Winston might even split votes.

So as long as Ameer stays healthy and consistent, and the Huskers keep winning, I do like his chances. Should be fun

Obviously it is way too early for picking the Heisman but for the sake of argument......

Kenny Hill lit up what was perceived to be the 9th best team in the country on the road.

Todd Gurley racked up 198 yards rushing plus a 100 yd kickoff return for a TD against the perceived 16th best team in the country.

Ameer Abdullah went crazy on a team that ranked lower than some FCS schools.

Not difficult to see who experts are going to talk about more right now.

It's way too early to think about the Heisman. Wait until week 6 or 7. If Ameer and this team does what it should, he will be in the conversation.

It will take an 11-1 or better record from the team and 1700+ yards with 15-20 TDs for Ameer to have a shot. The way the votes are split up the voters of each region almost vote to protect their conference. The SEC will vote for their guys and against the P12 and B1G. B1G votes against the SEC. B12 will give the benefit of the doubt to the P12. It is political and Ameer will need a lot of luck to win. Just enjoy the ride.

Grantland Heisman Watch: A Man, a Myth, a Miracle, AMEER ABDULLAH!

The One-Man Show: Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska

To answer the obvious question: No, the magnificence of this play isn’t diminished by the fact that it came against FCS doormat McNeese State. In fact, Abdullah’s 58-yard catch-and-run actually capped off one of the Big Ten’s stronger showings of the weekend. We’re grading on a curve here, but between Michigan State’s inability to thwart Oregon, Brady Hoke’s futile stand against Notre Dame, and Ohio State’s total acquiescence to Beamer Ball, Abdullah deserves a fruit basket from Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany for his efforts.

The Nebraska workhorse currently represents the B1G’s best shot at the Heisman, and if he continues to produce at his current rate, the Huskers’ inevitable failings shouldn’t be held against him. Frankly, I don’t even want to imagine what Nebraska would look like without Abdullah, but it would probably involve duct tape, a midseason loss at Northwestern, and a series of interminable Tommie Frazier Twitter rants. The good news is that Nebraska’s next opponent, Fresno State, ranks 122nd nationally in rushing defense, surrendering an average of 267.5 ground yards per game, so offensive coordinator Tim Beck may as well disregard the concept of “passing” entirely.

ESPN has been giving Ameer plenty of love going on two seasons now. They could try to dismiss him with the quality of our first two opponents, but they haven't. Ameer Abdullah has everyone's attention. Between Ameer and Westerkamp, Nebraska is the early season king of Sportscenter clips. It's a good look for us.

Heisman-wise, it's Mariotta's to lose. ESPN will have a couple dozen guys with opinions, but they don't have a horse in the race. Collectively ESPN leans to the underdog. The actual voters tend to play it safe.
