Shawn Eichorst is my hero

NUance

Although the sock puppet dude kind of missed the actual choice, I think he made one very good point, over and over. The "Ginger Assassin" may just deserve that title. I don't believe I saw even one mention of Riley as a candidate. Going with that assumption, that Eichhorst is ninja-ish in his craft, I have found that after my initial disappointment (how could I not be disappointed for a minute or two after following "the" thread for 4+ days), I believe in this decision wholeheartedly.

Just read another thread the quotes Riley as saying his biggest job now will be to hire a staff that knows more than he does (he said it better). That further solidifies my trust that this thing is going to work out very good.

A solid character at the helm. Willing to delegate the trench work to "those that know how". By many accounts a great recruiter and a great developer of young men, both in the ways of life and football.

I'm all in.

Credit for what, staying quiet? Like Riley (which I do) or not, SE had one name on the list and never moved beyond it (if one is to believe Perlman).

I don't think any credit is due SE until we see what kind of support he gives Riley. Support will start with an open checkbook to hire a top quality crew of assistants, continue with expanding the current construct of the recruiting office (and private jet travel for AC's), and extend to aspects of nutrition as well as strength and conditioning.

If SE does his job there, then he will deserve credit. Until then, any hire would provide some sort of arguable hope of improvement at this stage in the game.

I was one of the few people on HB, and probly in all of Husker nation, who was *not* in favor of firing Pelini. (Not a popular position to maintain this past month or so.) My biggest fear was that we'd get snubbed by our main target and then sit twisting in the wind for several weeks while our AD approached a laundry list of HC candidates. This is basically what happened the last time we got on the HC hiring carousel. But it didn't happen this time. Eichorst made the announcement posthaste after the last regular season game. Then promptly went out and landed his guy. IN FOUR FREAKING DAYS!!

Eichorst got Mike Riley in place so fast that we likely won't miss a beat pulling in the 2015 recruiting class. And I have all confidence that Riley will be able to calm down the rebellious Husker football players, and bring them back into the fold. Instead of setting us back two years (like last time), we're poised to step up to the next level.

Way to go Shawn Eichorst! Way to execute when it matters!!

the guy just went 5-7, who else was trying to hire him?? way too early to celebrate, not a splash hire at all, maybe just a "healer" at best.

Gotta love all those that are infatuated with the "splash" hire. This guy going 5-7; 6-6; 7-6 in the Pac 10-12 is like our now ex coach winning 9 games at Nebraska the past seven years. Surely none of you would compare Oregon State resources, profile, yada yada yada to that of Nebraska. And when he's won 8/9/10 games with those said resources, profile, etc., that makes me cautiously optimistic to see what he can do with ours. Time will tell all things. Hey "greatest fans in college football" let's act like it.

Do we believe Perlman that nobody else was offered the job? I really do not know. I have a passing interest in conspiracy theories (JFK, Sandyhook, Roswell, Marisa Tomei winning an Oscar). I wonder if Florida's quick/public process played a role into this hire. SE could have made a few calls (his top 3 prospects) and was laughed off the phone. How many schools in the last 15 fired not one but two 70+% winning coaches? Yes, only one. That can add years onto a coach's life (pressure). Or, live the life of a Utah type coach, make a few millions and expectations are not so grandiose. Had a buddy who saw our ex coach at the movies on Sunday- said the guy looked relieved....

Some folks (reporters) out there believe there was a little smoke to the Coach Beilema story. Maybe, NBC Sports and other outlets are too embarrassed they got taken for a ride and attempting to capture some credibility by writing additional reports after our hire. Who knows.??!!

SE is on a ledge with this hire. He has garnered national credit from the media types and received some heat from the locals.

One way or the other, all of SE's chips are on the table in regards to Riley's success. Given that, I have hopes that SE will give Riley EVERYTHING that he wants.

I like Riley and think he can be successful here but he will need some tools that Bo wasn't given.

I don't believe HP at all. It's pretty easy to semantic that away. He could have been asked if he would take the job if offered, said no and that would make the statement true.

Bielema's assistants were saying he had been offered the job. Whether or not that is exactly correct or not, we were talking to him about coming here and didn't offer the job to Riley until Bielema said he wouldn't.
