Army_Allen
Some people are so stuck in their ways I think some people still preferred the Jim Crowe Era to now. Holy cow, I get that racoons are a nuisance but killing one with a wrench in the city that posed you no INITAL threat is animal cruelty even if it was a f'ing aligator. Killing humanely and for purpose if fine but being stupid or doing it for fun is not. We're not barbarians and have the capability of adapting and changing to what norms we grew up with. Beating a kid with a switch isn't legal like it used to be praised upon to but I bet some people in here still think it's a viable solution to raise your kids. Quote Link to comment
Creighton Duke
I like it whenever a Southern/SEC school is mentioned, all of the "redneck" or "inbred" comments that inevitably are used. It's even funnier in the context of this conversation. 1 Quote Link to comment
Redman
Christ, this board will argue about anything. Trapping and/or hunting beaver, muskrats, mink, and coons put me through my first two years in college. Of course this was when prices ran from $30 for a yearling to $62 for a big boar. I stopped when fur prices took a nosedive. It wasn't worth my time. Evidently it wasn't worth other people's time either, because the little buggers are everywhere now. Having killed hundreds/thousands of fur-bearing rodents, I can assure you that a good thunk on the head is one less hole in the hide. If a strapping young guy like Gangwish thunked you upside the head with a crescent wrench, just like the raccoon, I doubt you would have felt it before the world went black. All we can go by is the story that was told, correct? Given that, was he on school property or being charged with any sort of crime? No. Did he do something extremely stupid by picking up the raccoon? Yes. Is being stupid a crime? No. Did he do the correct thing by dispatching the raccoon as quickly as he could with whatever means he had necessary to avoid mandatory multiple shots in the abdomen given to people bitten by wild animals? Yes. I don't give two sh#ts if what he did got your panties OR PETA's panties in a bunch. He did nothing that warranted any suspension by the university. You many not agree with his methods, but if whacking it with a wrench is what kept it from getting away and having to get rabies shots, more power to him. The next raccoon that I catch in a live trap while raiding my barn cats' food should be dedicated to Jack Gangwish and receive a 12" crescent instead of a 22 between the eyes. Good lord people, nut up and stop acting like a bunch of metrosexuals. Maybe in 1985. In 2014, rabies shots include: One fast-acting shot (rabies immune globulin) to prevent the virus from infecting you. This injection is given near the area where the animal bit you if possible, as soon as possible after the bite. A series of rabies vaccines to help your body learn to identify and fight the rabies virus. Rabies vaccines are given as four injections in your arm over 14 days. Quote Link to comment
Glendower
Oh wah. He can cry me a river. Don't take selfies with dead ot soon to be dead animals. You're either an idiot or a cruel idiot. Either way, he deserves something and Riley is too new to it all to do anything so nothing to see here imo.Are you serious? Yeah I am. Is there something wrong with that? I'm no animal conservationist but either one of two things occurred; he either tried to kill the racoon so he could take a picture with it and got bit in the process. Or, he tried to take a picture with a life racoon and got bit and decided to kill the racoon. Again either way it's a dumb dumb move. And one is f'd up cause it's his fault he got bit for messing with a wild animal. well, I can guarantee you Gangwish has killed hundreds of coons that WERENT trying to bite him, FOR FUN. Is coon hunting not legal in a city? What the hell difference does it make. A harmless picture transpiring into self defense? And he has to be suspended for it? Because of pressure from a garbage organization like PETA? Cmon. What the hell is wrong with this country and political correctness? Not saying I disagree with you but hunting a raccoon with a rifle and bashing one to death with a wrench are kind of different. it tried to bite him. theyre a nuisance animal. Theyre declared so. it's why you can hunt them without a liscense. Same as a cyote. He was bitten. Needed tested for rabies. That god damn thing was gonna be beheaded and the head sent in for testing anyway. That's the whole lack of common sense in all this. f#*k PETA. In ending, serious question. What's the new punishment when you hit a coon on the road with your car? What's the new law? I'm dead serious. It bit him because he stopped his car and tried to pick up a wild animal. That's what wild animals do when you stop and mess with them. 1 Quote Link to comment
zoogs
It bit him because he stopped his car and tried to pick up a wild animal. That's what wild animals do when you stop and mess with them. Exactly! That's probably the key part of this equation. "So our AD suspended Jack Gangwish for killing a rodent? Based off media hearsay and pressure from PETA? No charges pressed so far.#BEEFSTATE" "I'm all about core values. Like accountability." - Bo Pelini Quote Link to comment
NUpolo8
I am quite convinced everyone who thinks he was suspended because he killed a raccoon truly cannot see the forest for the trees. 1 Quote Link to comment
melscott62
This is so stupid. If that racoon had been in the wild and attacked a bobcat or mountain lion or some other animal that was bigger than it what would have happened? Quote Link to comment

Kernal
This is so stupid. If that racoon had been in the wild and attacked a bobcat or mountain lion or some other animal that was bigger than it what would have happened? It's not like Gangwish was minding his own business and was attacked by a raccoon. The dumbass was trying to grab a wild animal to take a selfie, it bit or scratched him, and he got pissed and killed it- then bragged about it because he thought it made a cool story. He was not protecting himself- the raccoon was. 2 Quote Link to comment
Saunders
f#*k peta. Let's get #FreeGangwish trending on Twitter. Let's not. This has nothing to do with PETA and everything to do with Gangwish being a dumbass. Actually, it has everything to do with PETA, because nobody really carded until they started bitching about it and created a change.org petition where they twisted the facts to support their f'd up agenda. So, yeah. It's fanatics acting like asshats. Quote Link to comment
Dagerow
If I'm Cotton I say f-it and play him the whole game what r they going to do fire him? I thought the same thing. Quote Link to comment
Hayseed
Sorry, but this kind of behavior is indefensible. He should kicked off the team, expelled from school and spend some time in jail to reflect on his callous cruelty towards these wonderful creatures. I just want everyone to see the coon sticking up for his fellow racoons......that's a team player. 1 Quote Link to comment
Scratchtown
You all seriously make me laugh. No one on this board even has a clue as to what is going on. Spewing garbage just to spew it. How about we lock this up? Mods? Quote Link to comment
Redmusky
OK is he suspended over this dead racoon or not. If he is another player that will not dress against USC , there could be more undressed NU players then dressed players on the side lines. Maybe the undressed players could wear coon skin coats in support of Gangwish Quote Link to comment

The animal wouldn't have bit him if he didn't mess with it... there is a difference between hunting and animal cruelty. A healthy Racoon does not let a human even see it most of the time, let alone get close enough to kill it with a wrench. I have hunted racoons and it involves baiting them and waiting. 1 Quote Link to comment
