URSS
What qualities or performance traits do Urban Meyer and Nick Saban have that Solich, Callahan, and Pelini don't have? What makes the difference? Quote Link to comment
TITANIC VS LUSITANIA
Recruiting the big uglies in the trenches. Obviously somewhat of an oversimplification, but I truly believe an elite OL and DL can almost win you a title alone. Then just add a QB that doesn't turn it over, and fill the rest of the spots in. You know...i kind of agree Quote Link to comment
lo country
What qualities or performance traits do Urban Meyer and Nick Saban have that Solich, Callahan, and Pelini don't have? What makes the difference? High football IQ. Incredibly good coordinators. Bama has 73% and Ohio has 68% blue chip recruits (4 and 5 star). Urban says the game is played in 4-6 seconds of relentless effort, regroup and repeat. Both also play and coach a complete 4 quarters of technique and fundamentally sound football. Limit mistakes and have a well designed system. As evidenced by Urban having a 3rd string qb step in and win. I can't even imagine how bad we'd look playing a 3rd string qb against the likes of a Bama or OSU. Those two guys are in the league with TO. Look at his qualities and both possess many of them...... Agreed. They rock on both lines. I hope we get there. Quote Link to comment
strigori
They manage to not just recruit well, but they develop well, gameplan well, and make in game adjustments well. We have not had a head coach and staff that could do all 4 since TO retired. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I believe they all have a high football IQ. The difference is that urban and saban and TO know the psychology of the game. That's all the way from recruitment to off season to practice to game day. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Honestly, I think solich had it all except the recruiting. At least he was the closest. 1 Quote Link to comment
HuskerPowerVA
Top recruiting classes sure help a lot. Meyer and Saban are two of the best of all time. Perfectionists in ever detail. But I am very impressed with the athletes OSU has on both sides of the ball and deep into the bench. Quote Link to comment

skersfan
If you ask either of the two, it is not them, it is the kids playing the game. Not just talent, but overall drive to succeed. Both state over and over, it is all about recruiting. Saben was upset a couple of years ago, about having to waste recruiting time, getting ready for the MNC. Meyers railed on how poor the conference was in recruiting. Challenged everyone to get off their ass. Yea they are great coaches, no question. But they know what butters their bread. Gonna be tough in this conference for awhile it looks like. Some are saying that we are looking at a run like Bama had, from Ohio State. Hope coach Riley can get us close, but this is an impressive display 4 turnovers and winning by 15 points. Amazing. Quote Link to comment
mnhusker
I think it's execution and motivation with great players that come with all types of ego that has to managed. Quote Link to comment

Not buying into the SEC crap, but it would be nice for the MNC to have to go through the B1G. Just wish it was Lincoln.... Not saying Riley isn't or won't be a great coach, but the jury is in on Urban. He is a great coach and getting some great jimmy and Joes to go along with that. Coaching being equal ( let's say Riley vs Urban) OSU talent wins out. NU is way down regarding the talent gap. OSU's 12 gauge is light years ahead of TA.....a 3rd string qb....... Riley has his work cut out for him. Gotta recruit his a$$ off. I like the hiring of all the support staff. Hope it pays... Quote Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
Ohio State will be Riley's new Oregon. Quote Link to comment
strigori
Ohio State will be Riley's new Oregon. Nebraska does not play Ohio State every year. More in common with USC than OSU. Quote Link to comment
