teachercd
https://twitter.com/zo_whaley/status/638507387679170560 These show the disconnect between what the tradition always was and what it became, crazy to me that some of the players didn't know how the tradition was started!!! Just a guess but I think they are being a bit sarcastic Quote Link to comment

funhusker
Cue angry fans tweeting these guys. Getting my popcorn A big part of me is happy to see these guys still follow the program this closely. They could have easily cut ties with NU when NU cut ties with "their era". Members of Huskerboard have differing opinions on the how and when of handing out practice jerseys that fall on both sides. No one should call out players that have actually worn them about their beliefs. I hope their twitter feeds are full of "miss ya's" and "GBR"... Quote Link to comment

knapplc
Interesting tweets from Gomes: Pretty easy to presume that last tweet should have said, "In my opinion you should'NT be in a blackshirt if you aren't performing at that level." Quote Link to comment
RedRex
Really proud of Mad Jack. That's the kind of story that I think embodies the soul of what this program should be. Quote Link to comment

teachercd
Interesting...I want to see where this goes. A super beloved Husker All American gives his thoughts that are opposite of most Husker fans. Quote Link to comment
funhusker
Gomes was part of a prolific group of Blackshirts. I can see how he would be "defensive" Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Not really sure what Alonzo's logic or reasoning is trying to get at in that middle tweet. Doesn't really matter, regardless. These guys experienced the tradition one way, and it's their only point of reference. Lavonte is absolutely correct that they are earned, not just given, but noone but the coaches are allowed to say whether they are earned or not. Bo gave 9 blackshirts out before Wyoming in 2013 as well. Have never known for sure, did Bo and staff take the Blackshirts away after awful defensive outings against Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc.? I would say most Husker fans would agree with that, personally. Quote Link to comment

Is it really anymore complicated than that??? Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
Gomes was part of a prolific group of Blackshirts. I can see how he would be "defensive" No kidding. Gomes was part of an amazing defense under the previous staff. They just had a different view on how to hand out the Blackshirts. Let's not attack Gomes for having a different POV. He is still a part of the Blackshirt tradition. 1 Quote Link to comment
