NUance
Perfect Match: Family fuels Patrick O'Brien's rise through recruiting ranks By Sam McKewon / World-Herald Bureau POSTED: SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, 2016 12:05 AM <snip> His dad, Paul O’Brien, calls him “off-the-charts competitive.” And his mom says you don’t have to tell him to work hard. “He knows,” said Anna O’Brien, a former Swedish national volleyball player whom all agree is the biggest source of her son’s fire, who’d drive Patrick to sessions with Calhoun and run laps while Patrick threw reps. “He’s not afraid of work. He’s been working his butt off all the time. LINK I think the last QB recruit I was this stoked about was Blaine Gabbert. And we all remember how *that* ended. 1 Quote Link to comment

Gabbert never made it to campus. POB is here. But I get what you're saying. Quote Link to comment
Xmas32
I'd be pretty ok if POB has a college career similar to Gabbert's. 60% career completion percentage, 40 TDs v. 18 INTs. Top 10 NFL pick. I didn't realize how good of a combine Gabbert had. 4.61 40 yd dash is blazing for a QB. Thread derail over. Quote Link to comment
Touchdown Tommie
Great story! I hope and wish he had an extremely successful career for the Huskers! Quote Link to comment
lo country
Gabbert, Freeman, Beck....... We are bound to finally get one highly rated prospect stay. At least he showed up which is better than 2 of the 3.... To add, great story. Seems like a solid family. Quote Link to comment
DomiNUs
It sounds like POB has the work ethic and loyalty to really make a difference here. Though, for some reason all the hype and hope bring up thoughts of Harrison Beck in my brain. Quote Link to comment

I think Bubba Starling was on campus for a couple weeks before he left for the Royals. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
I think the last QB recruit I was this stoked about was Blaine Gabbert. And we all remember how *that* ended. As a starting QB in the NFL? Bazinga! Quote Link to comment
NUance
I think the last QB recruit I was this stoked about was Blaine Gabbert. And we all remember how *that* ended. As a starting QB in the NFL? Bazinga! Ha ha! Yeah, I always was a fan of Gabbert. He had a great talent set. Good at getting the ball to the open receiver. Anyway, I can't wait to see what POB does under Danny Langsdorf. Especially considering the WRs that we have to throw to. : Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt96
I just wish we could stack another highly recruited QB right behind him next year or the year after. You know make this at least a bi-annual thing. Quote Link to comment
teachercd
The Huskers must lead the nation in stories about kidney's, right? 1 Quote Link to comment
I am I
I hope Tommy Armstrong has an amazingly good year and we compete for a conference championship. And then I hope Pat helps us compete for a playoff spot in the next 4 yrs Quote Link to comment
