shyndy
I was thumbing through the results of the past years and if I'm not mistaken this is the first time we have beaten a ranked opponent in non conference play (not looking at bowl games) since okie state in 2003. Is that right or am I missing something? Obviously we only have been scheduling one quality opponent in noncon a year and then they don't always end up being ranked, but I think something that makes this feel good is the losses to teams like VA Tech, UCLA, USC, etc. for quite a few years. 1 Quote Link to comment
okaive
Okie state was a conference game in 2003. 1 Quote Link to comment
Herbie87
Okie st would be a conf game. I think you gotta go back to 2001 Notre Dame. Quote Link to comment
shyndy
Ok we had penn state that same year but doesn't look like they were ranked so it would be notre dame then, wow. Quote Link to comment
Redux
Sonce 2001 the radio said. We beat Miami and Washington at home but neither were ranked of course. We in that time managed to lose to USC, VaTech, and UCLA at home. This felt so damned good. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Paul
Yeah - this was a huge game for them. M. Riley hinted at how important this was in Nebraska's identity during the post game conference. Quote Link to comment
Herbie87
The timing of this win couldn't be better. They won't be overlooking anyone and can really build off this before they go to Wisconsin and Ohio St. They should be able to get to 7-0 and then who knows. Wisconsin didn't look great today. Ohio St is legit though. I hope they manage to drop a couple games and fall out of the east. Everyone else looks beatable. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Paul
If we continue to grow after each of these games, I believe we will beat Ohio St. They really are our only opponent besides some slight gestures towards Wisconsin. All of our training for the next 4 win-games needs to have some guidance and relevance towards beating Ohio St. Quote Link to comment

Although if we win I don't want to face them again in the championship. Quote Link to comment

And if this team can get through to tOSU unscathed...I do think we've got a good enough offense to hold serve and win at tOSU. Not sure about our defense though. Quote Link to comment
Magnus
Best non-conference win since the 2013 Gator Bowl (NU wasn't favored) NU was a three point favorite today despite being unranked. So it's kind of a misleading stat -- only 4 non-conference regular season games vs. ranked teams since 2001 2006 at USC, 2007 USC, 2009 at Virginia Tech, 2013 UCLA In that time there have been 3 bowl wins vs. ranked teams 2005 Michigan, 2009 Arizona, 2013 Georgia. So it's a nice spin job by the SID to frame this as The. Greatest. Win. Ever. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stumpy1
After watching tOSU last night, I just hope we can keep it within 2 scores. We proved a lot yesterday but I don't think Oregon is even close to the same level of the Buckeyes. 1 Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
The OP said ranked opponents in non conference games not including bowl games. You may have go back to Alabama in 1977. Quote Link to comment

HuskerMav11
Yesterday was a good win, but I think you are all delusional in thinking we will beat tOSU. Possible? Sure. But we are still not a dominant football team and as soon as we lose, most of you will realize this. Takes years to build a program into a top football program. This is a good first step.
