RunMickeyRun02
Don't get me wrong, I love that we're 5-0 but I think 9th is WAY too high. Sometimes I think it's a conspiracy so it's more shocking when we fall and to make tv promo's carry more weight. I'm not of the delusion we're going to run the table. Our ranking is more a product of other teams falling then us muscling our way up imo. 1 Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
I think lazy pollsters also saw Michigan State and Iowa drop out of contention and kept a slot open for a Big 10 team. Quote Link to comment
Nebfanatic
Next 4 weeks will tell us quite a bit about whether we "deserve it" or not Quote Link to comment
GBRHouston
Wisconsin has bad days like we do. They got terrified by a currently winless Georgia State team. That game is very winnable for us. Quote Link to comment

It's big time drama, a Top 10 team going down. The more that happens, the more intriguing the sports season is. I'm sure there's a little element of that entering pollsters' minds. The Dude
Well deserved. If we lose to Indiana we'll deserve to drop. That's how these polls work. They're based on what has happened, not on what might happen in the future. 2 Quote Link to comment

admo
Well deserved. If we lose to Indiana we'll deserve to drop. That's how these polls work. They're based on what has happened, not on what might happen in the future. Yes it is. They might not be dominating, but they are playing good football and finishing games. I forget but it's like 8 victories in the last 9 games or something. I'm happy about it and for the Huskers. 1 Quote Link to comment
Huskers19911
I don't think the coaches poll is worried about building hype for a program, just to watch them lose and drop. Maybe a few teams playing us would like to see it, but most of the football landscape doesn't need to build us up to lose to them. Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
Based on the fact that NU is one of a low number of undefeated teams remaining, the current ranking is about right. Will NU end up the season in the top 10, probably not. But, if NU goes 10-2 it will probably end the season in the 10-15 range. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
The polls focus a lot on the record without taking a whole lot of strength of schedule or how you play into account, especially early in the season. I'm glad we're ranked that high. Doesn't really mean anything for the current season but I think it will pay dividends in recruiting. Some guys really want to play for a team that is contending for championships, especially the higher-rated guys. Going 6-7 doesn't help you sell that possibility. Being undefeated and in the Top 10 is definitely something you can sell, even if you don't end up there. And we absolutely have a chance to earn that. We should be favored in at least five of the last seven games. Wisconsin will probably be a slight favorite at home and tOSU will be tough. But if we finish 10-2 we'll definitely have earned it. All that being said, Sagarin has us at #22 and Vegas has us at #19, and that's probably closer to what we "deserve" at this point. But even at that, it's still only those same two teams ahead of us so we really have every chance to with 5-6 more games (before the CCG). Quote Link to comment
Moiraine
The polls focus a lot on the record without taking a whole lot of strength of schedule or how you play into account, especially early in the season. Which is why TN is still ranked high. They dropped very little after losing because it was to another ranked team, but pollsters are ignoring the fact that they played crappy in several of their earlier games including almost losing to an FCS team. 2 Quote Link to comment

I'm pretty happy about that also and you're right, the team is playing good football. Even in the loss to Iowa they played pretty good football, just not good enough to win that day. We're also committing fewer penalties and turnovers this year. I'm pretty happy with the direction the team is going. Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
Don't think for a second that any team looks at Nebraska and calls it a win. I think every team will be concerned about our offense I think every team sees a way to exploit our defense. No game we can't win. No game we can't lose. Quote Link to comment
